Maybe it was just coincidence that he started feeling sick at the same time as he started reading the script (something he ate earlier?). If that's the case, the humor works better if you're not thinking too much about the cause of his sickness, but just loosely associate the script's badness with the man's vomiting. Perhaps the vomiting made the man's reading of the script that much more horrible.
In any case, it's hard to make a case that the script directly caused the vomiting - that would force the audience to suspend disbelief too much (compared with the believability of the rest of the film), IMO.
