... i almost turned movie off. i know it is a comedy but his personality in this relationship was really pathetic. for most girls such attitude in men is a major turn-off as far as i know.
1st of all he's already turned off by it and mentions it towards his classmates. 2nd of all he tried to avoid her but she didn't give him much of a choice. 3rd he realizes there's an underlying reason for why she behaves like that... she's ultimately depressed and he wants to be the one to "save" her in spite of the abuse.
"1st of all he's already turned off by it and mentions it towards his classmates." yeah, talk is cheap. he doesn't walk the talk though.
"2nd of all he tried to avoid her but she didn't give him much of a choice." what?! he's a MEN for chrissakes! she didn't give him a choice? he could have turn around and walk away. i bet if he would be persistent in avoiding her, she would give up for sure. instead he settled for beating and abuse.
yeah, i know, she was depressed poor soul in great need of patience and understanding. but above all she was a annoying moody and agressive BITCH and i sincerely doubt that ANY men would endure her behaviour for that long. unless he's some kinky, pervy, sick s&m type of guy ;>
Wow TS, a girl who has a strong soul and a great personality is always a turn-on for almost any man, except for you of course. phillyX's response was PERFECT! "3rd he realizes there's an underlying reason for why she behaves like that... she's ultimately depressed and he wants to be the one to "save" her in spite of the abuse." qarn's reply was RIGHT too! He already fell for her when he was watching her sleeping in the motel... It's called "love", TS.
there is nothing kinky, pervy, sick about S&M. Its a variation (similar to hetero, homo) where Sub needs to get dominated and Top needs to dominate. It can remain as healthy as or as sick as traditional relationships.
Indeed. You are correct. For most girls, it is a turn-off. Girls tend to be idiotic until they mature, if they ever mature. Women, however, don't find this kind of personality as a 'major turn-off'. Girls only 'metamorphosize' into a woman under few conditions, one of which, heavy loss. She lost her love, hasn't she ? So, in my honest opinion, she was one step away from maturing, at the moment they met. One step away, enough to appreciate his attitude and personality.
And another thing. Pathetic or not, it's all about love. Love is not a game, in which you just follow some rules, and *zbang !*, you've hit the spot. Everyone has his/her own agenda when it comes to relationships.
And this was no comedy. More like a biography. It was funny, indeed, but I hope you know this movie has happened in this thing we call 'in real life'.
I think the movie made him a little too submissive (wearing high heels for e.g.),...however part of the charm is that its not a normal relationship where the girl is fragile and soft spoken and the guy is dominant etc etc,..she happens to be tough, violent, and unstable,..and he happens to be a laid back non-confrontational guy. Thats why its so funny. And yes, anybody who has been in love with a girl knows that you will do a lot of things you normally wouldn't do just to please her. Only guys who've actually felt this way will admit that.
Ah but that's the joke of the movie. In Asia women usually of a submissive nature and men the dominant one. By reversing it it becomes funny. Also because they made it so over the top it becomes slapstick which is a kind of humor that's popular there.
In any case I thought it was hilarious seeing him get slapped around. And yes I'm a guy.
Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved? - Bill Hicks
you need to watch the movie again and once you do you'll realise WHY he is so "submissive" and "pathetic" as you put it :)
did you notice at the start that he told us viewers that his parent wanted a GIRL? and that since they got a boy instead he was RAISED LIKE A GIRL until he found out his penis just growing and growing instead up shrinking and disappearing?
Partly it's about the slapstick humour......the squash scenes were hilarious. And partly it made sense in retrospect when we find out why she keeps telling him how to behave. And there was a resemblance......which is why she says "honey" before she passes out at the start.
