What are your 5 favorite action sequences of all-time?

1 being most favorite of the five, 5 being least favorite of the 5.

1) Neo vs. Smith at the end of the Matrix Revolutions.

2) The last half-hour of Commando.

3) Bus Depot from Transporter 1.

4) In Equilibrium when John Preston escapes from the chair & shoots the tar out of everyone in the room & then everyone in the hallway.

5) The scene in Terminator 2 where Arnold & Robert Patrick meet in the hallway of the mall & then the scene turns into a car chase.

1. Mac shoots at the Predator and everyone joins him

2. The opening duel (and build up) at the train depot in Once Upon a Time in the West

3. The Fight Club - Ong Bak

4. General vs horsemen and then spear duel in Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress

5. Jean Grey vs. brainwashed Cyclops from X2 (not the actual fight itself but the concept)

Wow, you guys mentioned some good ones already. I'll just add some that come to mind that stand out that have not been mentioned yet:

- Kill Bill 1: the Bride vs. the Crazy 88 (with samurai swords)
- True Lies: chase sequence with the terrorist in the beginning through the mall
- Bad Boys: final shootout in hangar and resulting car chase (Porsche 911 vs. Cobra)
- Bad Boys II: gun shootout and car carrier chase with the Haitians
- The Road Warrior: final fuel tank chase/defense against Lord Humongous
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: the movie was just okay but the whirlpool scene at the end of pretty spectacular
- Gladiator: Maximus & friends as the barbarian horde in the arena

I definitely agree wholeheartedly with that scene in Predator when the commandos mow down a few hundred square meters of jungle. I only wish I'd have been old enough to see that in theaters at the time...

1) Neo fighting Morpheus /Neo fighting Mr Smith in the Matrix.
2) Lobby shooting in the Matrix (btw, the sequels suck!)
3) Maximus and the other gladiators fighting the War Scenario in Gladiator.
4) Final battle in LOTR , Return of the King
5) The police attack against Leons apartment in Leon the Profesional.
....
6) Several parts of Die Hard with a Vengeance, fantastic popcorn action!!
7) Fight between Hector and Achilles in Troy.
8) Several parts of "Der Rauber", austrian movie about a Marathon runner/ bank robber, really recogmend it! Btw a Hollywood version is being made....
9)Plane crash in The Aviator
10) Chase in Bourne Identity

I'll do my best here....You guys have covered a LOT of great ones. Well done.

1) Ripley vs. Alien Queen on Sulaco in "Aliens"
2) Tom Hanks mowing down Paul Newmans henchmen with a Tommy Gun in "Road to Perdition"
3) Marcus, Reese & Star fighting the Harvester in "Terminator: Salvation" (the whole scene till the bridge) and yes I know the rest of the movie sucked for the most part.
4) T-1000 vs. T-800 in T2 at the end in the factory.
5) Ripley vs. Alien at the end in the shuttle in "Alien"

That's all I can add at this moment. Like I said, you have ALL done brilliantly in your assessments, so go job!

Some great scenes listed already.
In no order, five off the top of my head that haven't been mentioned;

1) Blade: The first scene in the meat factory nightclub
2) Bullitt: The main car chase
3) Heat: Street shootout after the heist
4) 300: Some superb action sequences, but I'll nominate the rhinoceros moment.
5) Bourne Identity: The simple, quick & brutal fight at Bourne's house in Paris.

2. the finale chase in LAST OF THE MOHICANS (1992)

3. brad pitts surprise knockout in SNATCH (2000)

4. the opening bar fight in DESPERADO (1995)

5. just about the whole damn movie DISTRICT B-13 (2006)

STREET KINGS, keanu kicking the door in and wasting them all

TRANSPORTER, statham kicking the door in

TRANSPORTER, the bus depot fight

ROCKNROLLA, the indestructible skinhead running down the street

EQUILIBRIUM, everything in there

LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN, the payback scene

HEAT, opening armored car robbery

OUT FOR JUSTICE, the poolhall-cueball fight

Leon: The Professional - The opening sequence in the hotel.

Children of Men - The six minute uncut shootout in Bexhill.

District 9 - The whole final action sequence.

Serenity - River kicking ass in the bar.

The Dark Knight - The chase scene with the Joker.

There are so many more action sequences that I love and most are mentioned here so I wanted to come up with some more that are my favorites.

You remind me of him. You forget to remember to be afraid.

There are so many to pick from! And so many have already been listed. These aren’t necessarily my top 5, but I’m just going to list a few that haven’t been mentioned already.

Raiders of the Lost Ark – truck chase (surprised I didn’t see that mentioned)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – fight on the German tank

Star Wars – trench battle

Fast Five – vault chase at the end.

Death Proof – car chase at the end.

Die Hard – climax on the building (from the explosion on)

Terminator 2 – many have mentioned the mall chase, but I would vote for the SWAT van/helicopter/tanker truck chase at the end. Speaking of James Cameron, I’d also include...

True Lies – the whole Key West bridge sequence

Batman Begins - Batmobile/police chase

I’m giving James Bond its own category, so here are my favorite five:

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – entire hour-long climax (skis, cars, shootouts, bobsleds – everything!)

The Man with the Golden Gun – car chase culminating in the car flip

Licence to Kill – tanker truck chase (I did see that one mentioned already)

GoldenEye – tank chase through St. Petersburg

Casino Royale – airport sequence

Those are just the first that come to mind. There are SO many great ones. Awesome thread, by the way.

Ah man, this is pretty tough for me.

1. The Freeway Chase- Matrix Reloaded (Loved this movie BTW, don't give a hoot what anyone says)

2. The Boat Chase- Face/Off

3. Car Chase in Paris- Ronin

4. The Parkour Chase- Casino Royale

5. The Mall Confrontation (and ensuing chase)- Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Honorable mentions:

1. Face/Off- The prison escape

2. Mission Impossible 2- the very last 20-25 minutes.

3. The Transporter- The car chase at the beginning.

4. Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)- The car chase near the end.

5. The Musketeer (2001)- The sword fight near the very end. The movie overall was so-so at best.
