blatant use of advertising

Is it me or does this movie just ripple with product placement?!?
Another user mentioned BMW as the obvious, but what about Tiger Beer? Watch the movie again and look out for how many times you see 'Tiger Beer' in boxes, bottles and glasses, I count 8 scenes!!!!!!

I'm actually currently writing on product placement as a major feature in many of Luc Besson's productions. Orangina also has quite a few shots in the film. The other Transporter films, and even something like Taken are chock full of product placement, it's almost funny.

I'm glad they used Orangina in the movie because I had never heard of it before watching this and bought some afterwards and it was delicious!

reply

Never actually seen Tiger Beer in France. Have seen Bud, and orangina.

There's also a scene with a big closeup of Pepsi cans. I think it's in a cafe right before Frank's car blows up. Sadly, product placement is here to stay. It seems to be more and more pervasive. I don't like it either!

I don't have a real problem with "product placement"... Unless it's just so in your face, like the actor holding up a can of coke with the label perfectly showing the name...

but for me, seeing items that I see and or use everyday, makes the movie more normal, more believable..

however, sometimes a made up product just works better, especially if the product is going to be used prominently in the film.

as for the BMW....I don't view that as "PP"...it's just a car that the character used.

A fake "cola" might be more distracting than seeing "pepsi cola" on the vending machine...

to me, it's just not that big of a deal. (PP)

reply

Agreed on every single point

Have you ever seen a James Bond movie?

reply

yes in all the james bond movies it,s full of advertising

reply

I'm not sure if BMW signed onto the movie...after Frank's car is blown up and he borrows one from the bad guys, it's a Merc. I don't think BMW would allow a rival car to be displayed so prominently.
