I watched this on youtube for free a few years ago
After hearing about it for years, and how popular it was, and how much the fans loved it, I had to go see what the big deal was. Well....either this film wasn't that great, or the story itself is overrated. The only parts I liked were the costumes and the magical, dream-like scene where the Phantom brings Christine into his world under the opera house for the first time. But other than that, it was kind of underwhelming and disappointing, and the music didn't really stand out to me very much, save for "All I Ask of You."
In fact, this Phantom guy that everyone wants to be the hero is actually a creepy stalker with an unhealthy obsession with Christine, and frankly, she was better off with her childhood sweetheart. Fans of the Phantom were always painting him as some mysterious, interesting, immortal figure with [supposedly] magical powers, when in fact, he was just a disfigured human guy (with no magic other than old-fashioned trickery and a gift for music) hiding in the hidden corridors of an opera house that was very old and apparently built by someone who like haunted houses.
That, and Gerard Butler can't sing to save his life. He should stick to playing historical warriors. He's better at battle screaming and kicking ass with a sword.
