I don't care, that it's stars Madonna. Heck, for all it's worth, she's quite good. But one thing bother me. Heh, I didn't know, that when you try to rape a women, she magically starts fall for you. Man! I guess the character was the submissive type.
That's because the movie was largely unchanged from the original, Italian version, which was shot in the early 70's and reflected the culture of the time, what was acceptable in Italy, when it comes to treating women. Not politically correct for our present time, but it's a movie, you have to suspend a little belief here. I think the larger message of the movie was great, although I still didn't like the ending. Heh, I wanted a Hollywood ending, dammit!
All I've learned so far in life is monkeys are damn funny.
This was the main problem i had with this movie, the whole relationship between the two leads didn't feel real at all, they had no chemistry and it all felt very rehersed, one minute he was trying to rape her the next she was falling in love with him????? the other problem i had was there shack, they were on a deserted island yet they could build a whole shelter wtf
I don;'t think this was as bad as everyone is making in out to be, yes it was awful but it would be forgotten if Madonna wasn't in it; but this is maybe becuase i saw it on channel 5 and i didn't pay for it.
were just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year.
I watched in on channel 5 too, after The Sweetest Thing was on, and expected it to be rubbish because of the bad reviews it got, but I really liked it.
Well I knew how bad it was, and spent my time looking for anything that was good about it, but no. Damn, even Madonna looked rough.
But the whole submissive woman, I loved being raped bullcrap, belongs in the 40's and 50's, or even earlier - think Gone With The Wind - but it doesn't hold any water now.
i couldn't believe the whole damsel in distress thing that was trying to be portrayed when Amber was being pushed around and chased after by PePe on the island - considering how buff she is, she easily could have taken him on and won!
there's actually a psychological disorder called the stockholm syndrome where some captives of kidnapping become attached to the person in charge; i think it can be safely assumed that madonna's character amber displays symptoms something similar to this disorder.
why would anyone fall for someone who is being cruel to them? because that is the only person that is keeping them alive and they feel that by pleasing them the captor will love them in return, and the captive also begins to feel affection. it's a very odd disorder, but interestng.
