the real 'swept away'

to me it comes down to if you saw the original swept away, and have any appreciation whatsoever for foreign films, then it's simple, this movie is an abomination. it might be good for camp value to laugh at it, but that's about it. they try to re-create the original, to remain faithful to it, but it's just ridiculously bad.the original movie was perfect, why make this one? why? how many here who are posting have seen the original? my guess would be like 20% at best.

way back in 75,76 they had this new thing, called showtime. we could not believe our eyes. nudity on tv! late at night, like midnight, 1 a.m., they would show foreign movies. movies you would never had ever heard of if not for showtime. kinky french and german movies from the early 70's. and swept away was one of them. as a 15 year old I was shocked, but impressed. imagine, a 15 year old watching subtitled foreign movies. now late at night, instead of showing good foreign films, they show crap like some reality show about hookers in las vegas, or girls taking their shirts off in new orleans. not that thats such a bad thing, but..

this remake is just stupid. way too american. the guy is fine, but in the original, the bitchy woman was italian, which made it sooo much better.
