It's a great movie. It was then and it is now. Christopher Nolan said the way Singer rooted the whole thing in realism was a huge influence on his Batman movies.
I also think the fact that it placed story and character over spectacle means that it's lack of visual effects (for a movie of this type) means that it isn't a horrible checklist of bad CGI. To put it in perspective, the Star Wars prequels were kicking about in this era, which series has aged worse?
I think the original 2000 film is still great.

Yeah the first film holds up pretty well. Some bits have aged a bit awkwardly, but overall the movie is still quite entertaining. Even more so for X2.

shareI still really like it although it's true that some of the characters (Storm, Cyclops, also kind of Mystique and Sabretooth) don't get a lot of material and some of the action, at least in retrospect, feels pretty brief and small.
I really liked Rogue and her angst but it's fair that she maybe took too much focus away from the other characters/actual team members.
I feel the first movie suffers somewhat from a lack of faith at the time in the super hero genre being relevant at the time and a pretty weak script..... would not say time has been bad to it, but it just suffers from being slightly ahead of its time.
X2 still holds up really well (my only "gripe" is that it seemed far to focused on the kids a bit... basically more emphasis on the school and its pupils to drop in as many teenagers as possible, regardless of how trivial their powers are)
Last Stand had everything going for it with a really solid foundation behind it and a story line set up in the previous movie for something really epic..... yet fails to deliver.... does ok for setting up The Wolverine, but that is about all it does.
I still think its a great film and great start to the franchise.

I also think that, especially if you have a smaller budget and maybe even if you don't and also especially if you have an ensemble cast, being television-esque at least at moments isn't necessarily a bad thing.
