Lady Jessica's Eyes

It's been a while since I read the books.

Lady Jessica's eyes WERE blue in the first mini after she took the "water of life".

Anyone know why they were not blue in Children of Dune?

I do remember from the books that some of the characters wore contact lenses (some of the Harkonenns maybe?) to disguise their exposure to "spice".

Was Lady Jessica one oth them?

Thanks for any imput. . .

reply

She did spend most of her adult life back on Caladan, so its possible that she wore contacts. But not everyone in CoD had the blue eyes even if they had high levels of spice ingestion, like they should have. I suppose it was a production cost thing with the film rather than a fluke. They just didn't bother getting everyone blue eyes.

That Is All.
The End
Good-Bye.

Nope.

Once addicted to Melange you take it the rest of your life - especially after the Spice Agony and becoming a Reverand Mother. You would NEVER lose the blue-within-blue eyes.

However many Reverend Mothers wore contacts to cover their addiction.

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm a man of wealth and taste......

Yes, Leto II and Ghanima were both addicted to Spice. They couldn't be raised on Dune and NOT be as it was everywhere.

What Alia did was take massive quantities of it to try and see the future, as Paul could do. Leto II also was pumped full of a massive amount of spice as well, but that was so they could declare him an abomination, same as Alia, and discredit him properly. Leto II just outsmarted them and overcame, for the most part, the inner voices - or at least enough so that he still retained his identity.

I thought it had something to do with the spice being in everything - not that she was an avid user or anything. I imagine when her diet changed, the eye color would return to normal too?

reply

Nope. Spice addiction never goes away. Everyone takes spice, just some more than others. Even if her diet changed back to the Caladanian diet she was on prior to her going to Dune, she would never go off spice completely, no matter if the amount was greatly decreased. My guess is, that once she went back to Caladan (and completely blue eyes is said to be a bit disarming to those who don't have it, so because of all the time spent outside Arrakis), she just took to wearing contacts like other BG are known to do. That is the only way to explain it away. But, as I stated before, it is probably a cost cutting measure rather than a mistake.
