Do most Americans move to different cities when they grow up?

When Elliot met JD's brother, she was surprised that he lived in his home town. Do Americans usually move far away from home?

In the UK, people generally either get jobs in or around the town they grew up in, or go to uni and get a graduate job in or around their home, unless they wanna do something location specific.

It just depends. I've known people who have bought their parent's house and I've known people who moved across the country just because they didn't like where they were from.

A lot of people go away to college in different towns and then take jobs in the area. Or they might end up moving for work. More than half the people that live around here are transplants due to work or the military.

Seems like half the people I went to high school with moved away and the other half stuck around in the same state. I think it all depends where their college or life takes them. I've also seem many who move away but end up coming back years later. I've stayed where I grew up because I like it here, it's been a good place to raise a family.

Really? I'm from the UK, and I know several people that have moved away from where they grew up. I'm not actually one of them, mind. But I don't find it to be that unusual a thing.

People generally move where the jobs are. In fields like medicine they often go where the best opportunities for their career prospects exist. That could be on the other side of the country.

In the UK a lot of people seem to go to completely different countries, like Australia or New Zealand.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.
