Carla and Turk

Although I love the show, Carla and Turk's relationship is ridiculously unnatural and there is an indication of that in every single episode. The easiest indication is that Carla calls him Turk, it is perfectly normal for JD to call him Turk, but for his wife to call him by his (and her own) last name is extremely stupid. Imagine growing up with your mom calling your dad by your last name every time they speak. I also found Carla's character so unlikable that I would dread watching every scene she is in.

They started off as co-workers, so it is understandable that she started calling him "Turk" instead of "Chris" since he went by "Turk."

In addition, she often called him "Christopher" - when he was in trouble.

I think a lot of people who don't like Carla never paid attention to her background. She was older than most of them. She was alone, thousands of miles away from her family. She was often looked down upon, regardless of her skills. And, she was the one who held them all together. She traded shifts so she could be with them when they had to run the night-shift by themselves. She showed them how to do lots of stuff and took the blame when something went wrong.

I don't excuse people for being "hot-headed Latino's" - I find that to be a BS excuse. But she wasn't as hot-headed as she could have been.

Agreed. He was comfortable with Turk and seemed to prefer it. Why wouldn't his wife call him that too?

Can't stop the signal.

reply

Agreed. It's a dumb complaint.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

A thousand miles away? Her mother lived with her.

reply

And given she is originally from Chicago, where do you think the rest of her family is?

reply

I met my husband awhile before we started dating and everyone called him by his last name, so naturally I did. When we started dating, I couldn't just switch to his first name, felt weird. So my poor future children, I'm sorry for being so extremely stupid.

reply

I began calling my last ex- boyfriend by his first name from the beginning although everyone else would call him a nickname variation of his last name. I did this because I thought his nickname was stupid.

Turk and Carla's relationship WAS unnatural. You see, Carla is a succubus from the deep dark depths of hell and she put an evil spell on a good man to fall in love with her and give her everything she desires, including doing what ever she says or wants...OR ELSE!!!!!!

In the military a lot people get used to being called by their last name, which carries over to hanging out with buddies, then to meeting women.

When you got an interesting last name, it works well.

reply

Exactly, I had a friend in the military that went by his last name "Basa". That's what Everyone called him. His wife (who I actually knew him through) met him by that nick name, called him that as everyone did, and even after they were married, she always called him that in public. Maybe there were moments at home when she called him by his first name, but I never heard it.

To Love and win is the best thing. To Love and lose, the next best.

That is a stupid complaint, Carla is perfectly written character and all the show is unnatural, expecially for people like the Janitor.
Carla's relationship with Turk is quite a standard and nice one and you are just slipping hairs cause you don't like the girl: cut her some slack, man!
