The actual final episode and theme song

Is anyone else slightly bothered by the fact that JD, the damn protagonist in the entire series was not included in the final final episode of Scrubs??

That just seems wrong to me

and I know he had his proper farewell in the previous season, the one prior to the last

and yes I know that the protagonist seemed to shift from JD to Lucy since the inner monologues and narration in the final last season were now from Lucy and not JD but still

not even a slight cameo on the last episode really makes it seem like the last season was like some kind of joke for any sad suckers that were still hanging on to the series before it ended because they loved it which I can understand

still it's weird

and also what the heck happened to the theme song? Someone else is singing it in the actual last season or at least that's how it is on netflix and it does not sound good at all

did they do that on purpose? To somehow highlight the fact that JD wasn't the protagonist anymore or did they run out of the right they had in a contract or something to use the original song as the theme song?

Weird, since JD is still the last person shown in the opening credits of the actual last season

Most fans of the series consider season 8 the final season. That was the original intention but ABC wanted one more season. While negotiating for the 9th season, Bill Lawrence asked if he could do a spin off instead. In my opinion (and most fans I've talked too) season 9 is a ill conceived spin off and not Scrubs.

Okay, thank you, mmichaels-71660; that makes sense to me but even though it may be considered as a spin-off, it's still called Scrubs and on Netflix, it just plays as the next season after 8 but I understand.

I guess season 9 had it's benefits though
there were some funny parts that made me laugh and it's always sad to see a series finale of an enjoyable series so having some more episodes to watch in season 9 wasn't so bad

Season 9 isn't actually a spin off but fans hate it and it is very different than the rest if the series so that's what fan tend to treat it as. It's my understanding that the finale of season 9 wasn't supposed to be a series ending but the end of season 8 was.

O okay that makes a lot more sense

So does that mean they thought they were going to return for a 10th season?

reply

Yeah they thought so. They were on the bubble at the end of the season but had respectable rating so they wrote a season finale not a series finale.

reply

They thought the semi spin-off continuation would go another season, yes.

Most fans consider season 8 to be the final season, and honestly I think it had the perfect series finale. Season 9 was basically made because the network didn't want to give up the great ratings and $$ the show was bringing in.

I didn't watch season 9 until last year, the finale of 8 was strong enough for me to feel the story had ended, and ended well.

Season 9, for all intents and purposes, does not exist.
