saddest episode?

Imo opinion it's "my lunch" where you hear The Fray - How to save a life. That just made me cry like a little bitch.

I think it's the one where Ben dies and you only find out at the end.

My Screw Up is the episode where Ben dies. I think it edges out My Lunch by a nose, simply because Dr. Cox's pain is so very personal because he lost his best friend in the whole world. While the three patients dying in My Lunch was terrible, and one of them had become a casual friend, Ben was one of the people that Dr. Cox cared about the most. His devastation at the funeral is just heartbreaking. And that Joshua Radin song 'Winter' is beautiful and haunting.

To me, My Lunch, and the following episode together are what really drives home the sad. However, An episode by itself is My Screw Up. Damn it that was sad. Jurrasic Bark sad.

I agree with you, though My Lunch really hit me hard when I first saw it because of the emotional depth that McGinley brought to Dr. Cox. However, I don't know if it reaches the heartbreaking level of Jurassic Bark. That episode was just mean to all of us because it was so heartbreaking.

I agree wholeheartedly (hello from two years into the future!). All the more true with the shocking ending. The 'How to Save a Life' segment of My Lunch wasn't sad so much as tragic. I can't put them in the same category because My Lunch really illustrated the range of acting ability and some good cinematography -- even Judy Reyes, whose Carla I found to be grating from start to finish, does a fantastic job during this scene. The scene was definitely "sad", but the word itself does little justice to the scene, actors, and character impact.

I forget.. is My Lunch the one where Jill Tracey dies? And they transplant her organs and it kills several patients? That's another devastating one, especially considering just her. I don't know, the fall she made from her initital appearance and then how much worse her life seemed to get with each appearance after until the last.

Also.. special notice to the episode with Molly Shannon (whom I don't personally like) as the ambulance driver who is always talking about her son while Dr. Cox is on ambulance duty.

Also "My Old Lady" is another one that's a tough one to watch when they lose all three patients or.. what was the one with the woman who dies, doing a musical number? You think its the mother or the kid upstairs going to die, and it turns out to be the woman downstairs.. another great, but sad episode.

Another great one from season 9, not one of my favorite seasons, but JD and Turk are talking to this patient and most of the entire episode is them with this patient until he passes away at the end of the episode.

I love the fact that they use Death Cab for Cutie's 'I'll Follow You Into the Dark' as the song on that one.

Is this the guy they gave up "Steak Night" for?

reply

Yes. Very touching to see the humanity in that episode.

I had forgotten how good scrubs was, the last few seasons were not that great. But just been back and watched some of the episodes mentioned in this thread and it reminds me why it is one of the best tv series ever

The one where Perry is in denial when his brother in law passes, then LaVernes death.

My Last Words. Just watched it and couldn't help but cry at the end. the writing here is so on-point and was sort of shocked to find that this was an episode of the later seasons. Specifically it's episode 2 of season 8.

I met Cinderella once... she's actually kind of a bitch.

I find an underrated moment in series 3. "My fifteen seconds" when they realise that Jill Tracy has been attempting suicide.

My Old Lady - Kathryn Joosten is fantastic and the song Hallelujah is perfect.

I knew the episode where Ben dies was the saddest. But how sad hit home when my brother in-law died in January of 2013. I am the only son so my brother in-law was the closet thing I ever had to a DNA brother.

So there I was at the private family only graveside service to start the day. I just flew in the night before. I was all strong and manly and totally at peace with it because he was in Heaven with God and it was all o.k. This was going to be a time to remember him and be together as a family. It was let's celebrate his life. He's with God.

Then I noticed out of the corner of my eye the black hearse, then came his casket with his son in-laws as pall bearers. I then realized his soul was in heaven but the rest of him was right here with us on Earth.

That's when I lost it. Being ripped back to reality hurts. It hurts like no other hurt. Losing someone you love really hurts. Seeing your sister without a husband and a nephew with no father while both your parents are alive and well puts it all in a new light.

So, Where Do You Think You Are is a question I often ask myself.

That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing that with us. How are you doing now?
