I read that he said that pornography was a major influence on him in committing crimes. As a matter of fact, studies show that most serial killers and sex offenders are avid consumers of pornography 9W. Marshall, “Report on the Use of Pornography by Sexual Offenders,” Report to the Federal Department of Justice, Ottawa, Canada, 1983).
It's just another reason why pornography should be banned.
If you go onto YouTube, type in Ted Bundy Interview and you can watch all (four, I think), parts of his last interview where he does mention the pornographic material.
No matter what your opinion on his mental state, it makes for a very fascinating watch.
But I guess not all men feel the urge to decapitate small animals, rape and do the same to women as a result of porn. There's something fundamentally flawed in such a person. Most "normal" people use pornography to compenstae for perhaps not being sexually active at that time. Without it I fear some folk might cross that line and seek it out on the streets as opposed to getting jolly on a few pics in the privacy of their own homes.
Many men rely on visual stimuli to become aroused and, in Bundy's case, he was often behaving like a peeping Tom but he was severely flawed because he committed vile acts on his victims post mortem. Most folk would be repulsed at the very thought of necrophilia. Henry Lee Lucas was the same in that regard.

Not sure he was. Books say one thing but that interview says different. He states in Part 2 of the prison interview that he came from a good home. A loving and Christian family.
He says like all families it wasn't perfect because he wasn't sure such a thing existed but he said his family were good people and that he wasn't abused and there was no drinking, gambling nor violence.
But then, had he really been abused, he may not have felt man enough to reveal it? Or maybe he just felt genuine remorse (most do when staring death in the face, particularly those with a largely Christian upbringing), and din't want his accusers to think he was making excuses. I guess we'll never know.

Hmm, I think there were several things going wrong in his family:
While the identity of Bundy's father remains a mystery, his birth certificate lists a "Lloyd Marshall" (b. 1916), although Bundy's mother would later tell of being seduced by a war veteran named "Jack Worthington." Bundy's family did not believe this story, however, and expressed suspicion about Louise's violent, abusive father, Samuel Cowell. To avoid social stigma, Bundy's grandparents, Samuel and Eleanor Cowell, claimed him as their son; in taking their last name, he became Theodore Robert Cowell. He grew up believing that his mother was his older sister.
His grandfather kept a large collection of pornography in his greenhouse where, according to relatives, Bundy and a cousin would sneak to look at it for hours. Family members expressed skepticism over Louise's "Jack Worthington" story of Bundy's parentage and noted that Samuel Cowell once flew into a violent rage when the subject of the boy's father came up. Bundy described his grandmother as a timid and obedient wife, who was sporadically taken to hospitals to undergo shock treatment for depression. Toward the end of her life, Bundy said, she became agoraphobic.
I also had a sucky childhood, but his was really traumatic. I don't know how I would react if I learned that my sister is my mother and my mother is my granny, and that my grandfather is also my father. I read somewhere that he was abused as a child, I suspect by his grandfather. That man seemed to be seriously sick.
He said his problem was violent pornography, but by the 50's violent pornography didn't exist, I suppose. And it doesn't make sense to become a killer just because of that... he was a natural born killer (like the movie, haha) and certain situations in life made that condition emerge. That's what I think =P In that interview it seems like he basically was trying to blame it all on pornography, but if a normal person is exposed to it I don't think they would just go and kill somebody. Ted was never normal! People don't have to worry about that. Pornography won't make a normal person become a serial killer.
Yes he seems to blame almost all of it on pornography of the violent nature but it was largely characature images on Crime Detective magazines of women with their throats slit that I think he saw and his own interpretation of the nature of those scenes was growing into sexual curiosity.
I said on another thread that pornography doesn't often lead to thoughts of murder and subsequent necrophelia.
Arguably, it's possible Ted could have gone on to lead a normal life but somehow, I think that deep within him lay unnatural urges and it was only a matter of time before those urges were overpowering him enough to activate his violent streak. He was brutal and unrelenting.
Even if folk fantasise about murder in relation to sexual overpowerment, they rarely go out and realise it. But Ted did so on numerous occasions. Even alcohol problems don't turn straightforward folk into repeat killers so there had to be a faulty gene there somewhere as you suggest!!

I agree completely with your post. Maybe the caricature images on Crime Detective magazines gave him ideas for his modus operandi, as he used to do similar things with his victims.
Interestingly enough. I was watching a clip about Bundy and the narrator maintains that all of his victims wore their hair in a similar way - long and with a central parting but my connection dumped me off before I could see if that had any relevance to the way his birth mother wore her hair.
This would make him quite calculating in that he didn't select girls randomly like an opportunist but he selected them for that specific thing which surely demonstates a really deep-seated problem.
I'll have to replay the media clip to find out!!

A psychopath can say any mortal thing whether he/she believes it or not. Bundy had no conscience, he just did as he pleased and cared about nobody but himself.
This is ridiculous. It was just a convenient excuse for Bundy. Do you know how many people look at porn? A LOT and there are very few serial killers. Serial killers and child molesters routinely blame porn, movies, TV, video games, heavy metal music and even Twinkies for their crimes. So why don't we just get rid of all those things and not hold people personally for crimes?
99% of men and a considerable percentage of women enjoy pornography. If porn created serial killers wouldn't violent crime be going UP and not down, since the invention of VHS and the internet?
Whilst there is potentially an argument suggesting that violent pornography can influence a particular killers fantasy or MO, there is no indication that pornography of whatever type INCITES crime.
Its the same argument used to try to ameliorate the responsibility of violent criminals who say that violent films or heavy metal are somehow to blame for their crimes.
A person who is sociopathic has no conscience, they tend to be manipulative, devious and scheming. I have no doubt that Bundy, as an intelligent man, was deflecting the blame from himself (a common trait of sociopaths, who rarely if ever accept full and total responsibility for their actions). Most serial killers will blame other reasons for them committing their crimes, because they cannot face that they are responsible.
Pornography, violent films, rock music, etc are outside influences. They can be taken in many ways. Some, a rare few, use them to fuel their violent fantasies, but that is not the fault of the music or films, that is the fault of the serial killer, who would find other fuel for their fantasties if the music or pornography were not available to them.
To use them as an excuse is to miss the point entirely, and start blaming something outside of the REAL causes for the violence.
Allow me to introduce myself. I'm a man of wealth and taste......
Three years later but gotta say I agree with the OP.
No, pornography does not turn most men into serial killers but its effects are harmful nonetheless. Pornography does nothing good for society. period.
I see pornography as the center of a web and all the following flowing from it:
hate misogyny divorce child abuse violence spousal abuse lies addiction selfishness self-hate loss of love replaces real love with something fake loss of humanity putting down of others. human-trafficking loss of self-worth slavery murder and many more.
Pornography is an insidious drug and the sooner society is free from it the sooner the world becomes a better place.
If you truly think I am more dangerous than a drug that leads to so much sadness and evil in this world, I feel bad for you and your teeny tiny intellect.
