Wolfe's Beer...

...the stuff with the curvilinear "R", anybody know what it is? It's dark and looks yummy.

I don't think we're in CONUS any more, Toto...

It was a brand called Remmers, which Wolfe chose in the novel Fer-de-Lance to replace the bootleg beer he'd been buying up to that point. As far as I can tell, it hasn't been made or sold in the US for decades.

According to a discussion on another site (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/help-with-a-sierra-nevada-and-remmers-clone.406899/):

Remmer's was in fact a real beer, brewed by the Remmer Brewery in Germany around the time of World War 1. Its importation to the US was stopped during prohibition, but resumed after prohibition was ended. Eventually the brewery was bought up by Beck and Co.

Last I noticed (i.e., quite a while ago), Beck's was still in business, but I have no idea which (if any) of their beers might be a descendant of Remmer's.
