Boxing movies

First off I thought this movie was alright. I respect opinions but for people to knock Undisputed and say it was awful.....makes no sense. It's a boxing movie that's set in a prison. You shouldn't be thinking "Oscar winner" when you rent it anyways. Take it for what it is and just enjoy the fights. Stop whining about plot holes and character development.

Second, Raging Bull. Man am I tired of hearing about how Raging Bull is the greatest boxing movie ever. In my opinion, it was B-A-D. Everyone just says that because De Niro was the star. Just because De Niro was in it does not mean it's good. Now if you liked it....that's cool just give me some real reasons why it was so good. No one can give me any. It's like Taxi driver, soooo bad but for some De Niro reason everyone LOVES this movie. It blows my mind, but I'm getting off topic here.

So, why don't you guys list off some of your favorite boxing movies, taking into account good fights (realistic) and good story.

Peace

Obvious candidates

Not boxing movie but I enjoyed fight scenes in Snatch

To be honest I thought this film was rubbish. I am a huge boxing fan and love boxing films. Rocky was excellent but not really for the boxing scenes but because it was wonderfully done and you really start to relate with Rocky and really want him to go the distance. Now apart from the last boxing scene which wasn’t great there's not much to this film. The story is pants and uninteresting. It tries so hard to be something its not. I think they wanted it to be a classic like pulp fiction or snatch but it’s really not.

I should have been sceptical because I don’t know about over in the US, but over here in the UK it was a straight to DVD release. Never even entered the cinema. When I saw it in the video rental shop, I thought "WOW Ving Rhames & Wesley Snipes, why have I never heard of this" and after watching it I thought "oh that’s why".

It’s worth a watch but not worthy of a place on my DVD shelf!

For me, the best movie about box ever is "Rocky Balboa" of Sylvester Stallone.

This one, of Walter Hill is very good with a movie starred for Antonio Banderas and Woody Harrelson.

I don't like Sylvester so therefore his movies lose huge rating regardless of how good they are. Yeah thats bias, but guess what? Who isn't these days, he blows, severely!

Million Dollar Baby was awesome but it wasn't necessarily a pure boxing film. As it concerns a purer film to the genre then I liked Cinderella Man, thats the best one I have seen recently.

All things concerned Undisputed was a pretty bland movie, not worthy of being classed as a great anything, in a good sense.

De Niro is great in Raging Bull because it is a true story about a psychopath. Since Robert DeNiro is not crazy in real life, the fact that he porteayed one so convincingly makes it a great performance. Similar to the way everybody praises Heath Ledger in Dark Knight, when an actor "acts" and makes you believe that he is crazy when in reality he is faking it you can tell it was a great job. Anthony Hopkins plays a psychotic cannibal in Silence of the Lambs, he doesn't really eat people, so you gotta admit it was a pretty good performance since he made you believe him. Also in certain older movies, the director uses some different shots and styles that were new and groundbreaking when the film was made, but are commonplace today. Since we are used to seeing them so frequently the luster has worn off and it goes unapprieciated. Raging Bull is acclaimed for the directing as well as the acting. As for boxing movies I liked Diggstown, Cinderella Man, Rocky, and Million Dollar Baby. Undisputed is terrible.
