Mike Tyson
I haven't seen this movie yet, but I was wondering if this movie has anything to do with Mike Tyson?

I just saw this for the first time and that was exactly the first thing I thought about. I remember the alleged "rape" that Mike Tyson was accused of occured in a hotel room; just like the movie. Mike Tyson was a champion(not when he went to prison)and "Ice Man" was, too. Yeah, I think it's loosely based on Mike Tyson's rape charge and trip to prison.

ok I haven't seen this movie, but I don't mind spoilers. Which guy is supposed to be innocent in this film? is Ice Man actually innocent or Snipes's character?
shareVing Rhames character is modelled after Mike Tyson in the sense they both find themselves in jail after being accused of raping a woman. but the resemblance doesn't go much further. Rhames character is clearly smarter and saner than Mike.
It is shown that Snipes character was guilty (although a life sentence seems too harsh) while Rhames character seems to be arrogant and brutal, making it quite clear that his capable of rape.
Either way this movie is an editing mess.
shareThere's more to Tyson than meets the eye. Besides the rape conviction, the training segments of ving rhames, especially the scenes of him shadow boxing are through and through imitations of Mike Tyson, If you've ever seen Mike train and shadow, it looks a hell of alot similar.
The way Rhames looks and acts is a hell of a lot similar to Iron Mike.
i heard that this movie is supposed to be based on mike tysons time in prison. a friend of mine told me that when tyson was in prison, he got his ass whooped by some prison boxer.

Is that true? That Tyson fought in prison?

Wouldn't be a far stretch, maybe he did.
If you were a prison warden, wouldn't u want to watch the world champion face the prison champion?
If you were the prison champ, wouldn't u want to see how you stand against the world champ?
If you were the world champ, wouldn't you want to prove how bad ass you are in prison by KOing their champ?
If you were a random prisoner, wouldn't you want to watch a boxing match for the hell of it?

I highly doubt that was true. Ain't no prisoner who doesn't have the proper training, proper handlers, nor good compeition gonna stand a chance against "The Baddest Man on the Planet" in his prime.
And Monroe Hutchen didn't go to jail for rape, he went to jail for manslaughter.
There are a few boxing champions who have actually come out of prisons, Bernhard Hopkins is one of em, hes got a greater legacy than Iron Mike as well.
Could Iron Mike have gotton his ass whooped in prison than had it covered up so his career didnt go down in the toilet? Sure. His career went to hell anyways, I highly doubt that it would have been covered up this long, someone would have said "This guy in here beat him, we got 200-300 witnesses" that prisoner would also gain some fame, life sentance or no.
When Mike Tyson went to prison he was in his prime basicly, to beat a guy with an ego like that in prison when im sure he thinks he could walk over anyone, would be somethin else. But, all you would have to do is take the punches and show him you aint scared, thats half the battle against Mike.
PS:
When Mike fought Lennox Lewis he was drugged out on anti-psychotics and anti-depressents, i wont say he didnt need them, but he was far from the tiger he was and those meds made him that way. Tyson will have scary amounts of power into his 70s just like Jack Dempsey, if he would have fought smart and not been so psychologicly whacked out, he could have been a champion even today at 42. hes still got speed and power, he just wears out too easily and has lost the will to win.
He hasn't had his true handspeed since the Golota fight. In his fight with Brian Nielson which was the one prior to his fight with Lennox Lewis, his hand speed was no where near what used to be (Not even compared to a year before when he fought Golota). And there's no way in hell some convict would've beaten Mike in a boxing match. Unless Holyfield went to jail and we didn't know about it.
shareI don't think Evander would defeat Tyson back when Tyson was in his prime, and in a fight with much lesser rules ... prison ... Tyson would win. He'd be in his element. I could, of course, be wrong.

i dont think thismovie really had anything to do with mike tyson, just the rapecoincidence.Mike Tyson didnt fight anyone in jail. And alotof boxers shaddowbox in training so u can't really say because iceman shaddowboxed its a rip of mike tyson. Andalsoicemanscarreer was showed tocontinue when he won the belt back after prison where as tyson well we all know that story.
shareokay, but Bernard Hopkins became good after he got out of prison. Not to mention the fact that he lost his very first professional fight and lost his first title shot against Roy Jones (nothin to be ashamed of). Bernard actually got better as he got older. You rarely see fighter who were better at age 36 than they were at age 26. But that's how Bernard was. As soon as he got more experience, better handlers (Having Bouie Fischer and Naziim Richardson would've helped him a lot more than anybody in prison, unless Angelo Dundee served a short, unheard of stint in jail with Ex)and his competition got better, he got better.
Although Monroe was a pro before getting locked up, I don't remember hearing how great he was before he was locked up. So that would mean the majority of his experience in the ring came by fighting other prison fighters. So if this character is based off of a true person, more than likely that fighter would have the same type of experience. And eating up on a bunch other prison fighters ain't gonna prepare him to fight the speciman that was Mike Tyson back in the early 90s.
But then again, who would've thought that Buster Douglas could do what he did, although Buster was indeed a professional, something that the prison champ is not.
I think your all missing a little something here, a prison fight isn't a straightforward legal fight. A big roid head with a crack problem isn't going to go down and lay down like a pro fighter, it's very possible that tyson could have came up against somebody out of their skull in jail who was in such a situation who may have beaten him, I doubt that is what happened without anything coming out after all this time but it is possible but at the end of the day there is always going to be somebody bigger, stronger and harder than you even if you are mike tyson.
shareway to reach for the stars but i doubt that. and if his supposed prsion oponent did use some dirty tricks, then its valid anyway. just about anybody could beat anybody if they cheat.
shareHighly doubt anything like that could happen without it getting out somehow. I've never heard a rumor or anything about Tyson losing a match in prison.
But the character is based on Tyson I think. I've seen Tyson interviews and he's said similar things that the character did. He was at least inspired by him.

Obviously based on the Mike Tyson's case back in 92...
shareNo Iron Mike went to his own jail. This jail belongs to someone else.

Even if Mike lost a fight in prison, that doesn't make him less of a badass.
