Were the writers in love with Kristin Kreuk?

As some think, but some have pointed out on the audio commentaries where they say how she's the magic of the show etc, perhaps they shouldn't have said that because it's like if you have written a OK protagonist and saying he or she is the show stealer it's one thing coming from audiences or critics but coming from the writers themselves it's inducing eye rolls. Lana was not the magic of the show she was a three season love interest who overstayed her welcome, they played up her role too much as a result it ruined the character in people's minds, her constant bragging about secrets made her come off as unsympathetic and also the concept of the love interest not knowing the hero's identity through out has had it's day by the time of the show, but the writers were so obsessed with KK/Lana and secrets they just decided to ignore it and it didn't help that Lana's role as Clark's boyhood friend was taken up with Chloe.

I get what you're saying, but I loved Kristina Kreuk lol.

reply

I loved Lana Lang. Kristin was great throughout the series.

I loved Lana Lang too! I was in my teens when Smallville started and fangirling the show so much. The show kinda started as a teen show. Teenage girls loved Lana and especially Clark and Lana together. They had a huge fanbase.

I think if Smallville is airing now, many teens will love Lana too. She's kinda like Elena from The Vampire Diaries. The good girl but annoying at the same time as seasons goes by.

Such a beautiful actress but I felt her character got a bit weird in the last few seasons

Well Kristins story with Clark was making them a lot of money. Check the shows ratings and you'll see that it was at it's highest while she and the Luthors were on there so like any show they milked it until there was nothing left to get out of it.

In the real adventures she had sex with LEX multipleh times

reply

uh not really sure why you quoted me on that.

reply

I was just agreeing with you that in the NEW adventures of Lois and Clark they through Lex right in there to run a fowel and make it a love triangle which also made some so bucks

If you look on tvtropes, she's actually an example of "Creator's pet." That's when some people in charge of a tv show just fall in love with a character/actor, and it seems like they're the only one on the planet who likes this person/character, but everyone else cannot STAND them, and yet this person keeps coming back or remains on the show for no other reason than the writers/creators liked them. Lana is a shining example of this.

On the one hand, Kristin Kreuk is a beautiful actress, but frankly, she's not that good at acting, and they made her way too perfect on the show, even when terrible things kept happening to her. (And I use the phrase "Happening to her," literally, considering she never seemed like a "go-to" girl). Even Chloe lampshaded Lana's perfection, and one villainess tried to kill her because of it.

And you're right, she overstayed her welcome and should have left.

reply

Amen. Everything you wrote is 100% spot on.

reply

I think the reason she overstayed her welcome and why Clark didn't fall out of love with her sooner because the format of the show demands that he stay in love with the same girl for the entire run of the show like Ross & Rachel.

reply

It's always best to keep a love interest or best friend in the dark about the hero's secret for two or three seasons.

reply

Other reason she stayed on too long because Kristin Kreuk was contracted for seven seasons, if she stays on for seven seasons after high school she would have to know Clark's secret and not be his love interest just best friends/sidekick but they had to drag the whole won't they, will they? and secret keeping through the dirt, it wasn't fun anymore.

reply

The writer knew Clark wasn't going to end up with Lana but they didn't intend to end their love story anytime sooner or go through any major changes or grow as characters.

reply

Wasn't everyone?

reply

She was one of the main reasons I watched the show back in 2001. When you're fresh out of high school and you see that beautiful face, it's something you just gotta keep seeing. Fast forward ten years and I regularly watched all 10 seasons throughout.

reply

They loved her so much they should have been Mary Sued.

reply

The more you think about how many secret rescues from Clark until people like Lana start pointing fingers, in season one a crooked cop and reporter were on to him.
