Will there ever be a movie?
There have been so many movies made based on video games. Will there ever be a Grand Theft Auto movie?
shareThere can't be - it's a clause in Rockstar's contract with GTA. They can make the series as long as they don't make a movie out of it (or they at least will be disabled from making any profit from it).

It's because of that Ron Howard movie with the same title right? Maybe they can have the same studio produce it or if worst comes to worst, they can change the title.
shareI dont really see the problem with the name, there's two films called The Running Man, two films called Crash etc. The main problem I see is that it wouldnt translate from video game to film well, the stories of gta are mostly highly re-hash cliched versions of old gangster classics like The Godfather, Goodfellas, Scarface etc., the list goes on and on. Its the gameplay and freedom that makes gta so great and you cant put that in a movie, it just wouldnt work, it'd be another mediocre gangster flick and wouldnt do the game any justice at all, I think Rockstar know this.
