"Whites Only"

That scene was so forced. I felt they could of done it in a less obvious way. I dont care where you are from you would know what that meant. Just seemed a little cheesy setting up the Black woman's speech. I felt like they could of done it a different yet more powerful way.

Well it really does depend on where you come from. A lot of people are brought up quite insulated to such things or at the very least believe it's 'as bad as people say'.

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

Actually the drinking age had been lowered to 18 in most states (17 in some) during many of the Viet Nam years.

I did two tours there in the USMC

It was still mainly 21 at least until they lowered the voting age to 18, at which point most states lowered the drinking age to match. There were only a few in '65 that had the age at 18.

You know, because if you're going to vote you might as well do it loaded.

It did feel cheesy & forced, but if you were from a place like Massachusetts, or even Wisconsin or Colorado that concept of segregation would be foreign to you. In '65 it wasn't exactly something that was as hotly advertised as it was in '68.
