Well, it isn't really. I mean, I felt the same way, and I thought that it was something that I wanted to see. Then I saw it and I get what the advertising was trying to say.
Ok, so the movie is about family. Using other Disney movies is an analogy to the Disney "family" of characters, and he is joining the family. The little bonus feature about how Stitch has always been trying to get into Disney movies makes that a little more clear. He almost comes off as the little brother and all the olders "siblings" i.e. Ariel, Aladdin, Belle, and the Lion King cast are sorta telling him to "get his own room". Does that make sense?
So, it isn't really making a mockery, but I can definitely see where it can be percieved that way. The advertising department really isn't all that great.
