Animated Disney films more emotional than 'adult' dramas

Do you find animated Disney films, whether it be Dumbo, or the Fox and the Hound or the Lion King (usually ones involving animals) usually make you more emotional than cheesy 'adult' dramas like the Notebook or something? I'm a 26 yo guy but many animated films, including this one, have made me emotional and even a bit teary (not like I'm sobbing or something though) whereas very few live acting films do this to me. Disney always does this to me, even though I know it's so formulaic. Not all Disney films, just some of them. For some reason the subject of this film - family and belonging, touches much more of a nerve than some sappy romance.

Am watching lilo and stitch with my kids and I'm balling my eyes out, as I do with every single Disney film ever made!!!!! Except pinochio that just scares me!

I'm a twenty-year-old girl, and I am right there with you. I do cry during some live-action films. I admit, "Titanic" and "Les Miserables" are two that always get me.

But the other day I convinced my mom to watch "The Fox and the Hound" with me on Netflix. I hadn't remembered really anything about the film from when I was a kid, because it wasn't one of my favorites. But as soon as I saw Todd's mother in the beginning, I was suddenly emotionally involved. I cried a little, and my mother--who apparently has NO SOUL--made fun of me, but I think that shows how much talent the Disney team has. They have to say so much with so little. They have to make us care for drawings as if they were real people. They have to encompass a plot and complexities of emotion while still portraying them in a way that children can understand. But oh my goodness, they are masters at their art. "Beauty and the Beast", "The Lion King", and so on are just phenomenal. And the fact that Disney, in "Lilo and Stitch", is able to portray such a precarious family situation while still remaining somewhat lighthearted is just outstanding.

Now if only someone could tell Disney to cut the department making films like "Santa Paws" and "Beverley Hills Chihuahua" so we can get more treats like this.

Yep, Disney films bring out the man-tears.

I agree, Disney movies are the only movies I cry in, that's why I like them!!! ?

I actually agree. A lot of movies intended for grown-ups often get me to roll my eyes when they get sappy or emotion. Now some of those movies I will (reluctantly) admit to crying when I watch them like "Schindler's List", but for some reason well made family movies touch me more than any BS drama.

I think because most Disney feature films and movies like Charlotte's Web are made by people who love their craft and are good at their craft. While something "more serious" just seems like it is trying to be Oscar bait.
