Going to job interviews in a bare midriff.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Hawaiian culture or lifestyle but in all honesty I can say that the people doing the interview wouldn't have cared too much. I lived in Hawaii for half a year for a college exchange program and even though I was only there for six months I quickly learned that dressing up in Hawaii was pretty much non existant. Locals there are very casual in the way they dress, and wearing suits is pretty much non existant. During my entire time there I only saw 2 guys dressed in business suits and briefcases walking around, and both were attracting very strange looks from the locals around them. Truth be told, one was Asian and the other had what I would call a strong New York accent (I'm Australian so I'm not to sure) so it's highly likely they weren't locals. All my college professors just wore shirts, shorts and flip flops (heck one of them turned up in her surfing gear because she was running late from the beach). Another example is for a friend's 21st birthday we went out to what would be considered a fancy restaurant in Waikiki, and even with a dress code the girls just wore a nice flowy maxi dress with leather flip flops (or sandals as the locals call them) or a nice skirt and top and the guys wore nice jeans and a polo top. That was the extent of "dressing up" in Hawaii.
True, Nani could've worn a top that covered her midriff, but that's just the way they dress over there.

i was thinking that too but the whole of the film she is dressed like that so i thought it was normal there. i was more interested to see that her stomach wasn't toned and flat like most young women or animated characters are portrayed with

Well she wasn't smart was she, but it wasn't like she had job interviews she was applying for jobs.

I suppose you forget the part where every one of the places she applied for told her they had positions open, and didn't turn her down until Lilo and Stitch screwed it up? But oh yeah, it was totally the midriff. >.>

The islands are much more laidback compared to their uptight mainland counterparts.

It was clearly Stitch ruining the interviews for her.
