This show is ridiculous
nothing more to say about that.

Ridiculously good?
It sure was.

To the OP, i hope you watch better teen shows with 5 series in the near future. And I agree, ridiculously good, indeed it was.

Haha this show is ridiculous in the way that you have to use your imagination from time to time, but it is well written and has good plots going on. :)
shareIt's appalling! The worst show I can think of!
The kids I'm sitting for are watching it right now (hence my ranting), and I am actually experiencing a sort of PAIN.
It's the opposite of what someone else said - I think the child anarchy thing is such a cool premise (Lord of the Flies is an example of this working) but they wrecked it. The story could interest me if I wasn't distracted by the utterly ludicrous and laughable costumes and makeup, and the even more infuriating confused accents. There are kids who don't even attempt the American accent, I mean, gosh, make up your mind! It's English-produced and made in New Zealand (I haven't watched enough to know if the setting is actually specified), so why did they go so out of their way to contrive an American feel?
Also! If the ABC (Australian kids' channel) have a disclaimer admitted that the show contains mature themes (including rape, apparently!!!! [http://www2b.abc.net.au/tmb/Client/Message.aspx?b=81&m=64962&ps=20&dm=1&pd=3]), why did they put it in the after-school slot? Argh!!!!!!! I want to watch The Superhero Squad! It seems like solid gold!
Uh, sorry. I didn't realise I had such an essay in my head! I didn't want to start my own thread but maybe I should have... then I'd have space for all my exclamation marks...
Woo! thanks for posting...im glad it's still being aired and kids are watching it so that's made my day.
Perhaps you should watch a few more episodes? I love the costume and make-up, it's eccentric and everything i love about the tribe.
I have never heard any of them ever use an american accent. And it has never had an american feel to it for me...that's what i loved about it...it wasn't like anything i had ever seen before.
Um...because its a childrens programme? Although the age range is broad and it appeals to many ages, but it was originally aimed at children. However, as the series grew, so did the audience, and more mature themes developed which could be deemed inappropriate or controversial. Which is most likely why they have a disclaimer.

Wow you can't have watched much then if you didn't notice the accents. When my kids are watching it I cringe at all the badly done fake accents. As the other person pointed out it's not even consistent. Some attempt the US accent and seem to pull it off. Some attempt it very badly (like in the kids toys ads). Others don't even seem to try. I don't know if there's any reason in the plot why any or all of them are supposed to sound american but it's definately there.
I crack up when I see this rundown world where everyone has perfect makeup. Year 12 girls going to their school ball don't have hair and makeup that immaculate.
I'm sure it's a great show for pre-teens and my own kids that are age like it, but I can't see what older viewers might see in it. The drama and plots don't seem any more believable than what you'd get in Home & Away (which kids also seem to think is great realistic drama).
They are a bunch of kids with no adult in site. I can't imagine what I would have worn, or done to my face with makeup as a kid had no adults been around to say..."You look crazy, go wash your face." =)
shareWell ridiculous if you're over 14. For anyone under that age it's the most awsumest show eva! I have kids in the pre-teen age group and they love it.
For anyone else though, I have to agree it is ridiculous. A post apocalyptic style world where everyone has immaculate hair and makeup that would make any popstar jealous. Theme music and drama that would be too sappy for even Days of our Lives (music which seems to play every 2 minutes through the show). And of course the absolutely terrible fake accents. I cringe whenever it's on.
Not at all one for adults.
I think that the initial idea behind the show is actually pretty decent however the costumes, make-up, and virtual reality/laser stuff was a bit too over the top. Maybe if they redid it without that then the show would be better.
shareWell that's good really because it was aimed at children. It's a childrens show.
And about the hair and make-up...it's not neccassarily supposed to be realistic.
It's set in an unknown time and place, all we know is that there are no adults anymore. The hair and make-up can be any way they like. Hlaf the things that happen in tv drmas and soaps are unrealistic, but it's only television and it serves a purpose to entertain.
Actually i watched all seasons and it's how i learnt to do a new zealand accent. And considering it's a tv programme for children, with children, i don't see why the accents matter all that much anyway. It's hardly reason to call the show ridiculous.

The show really started going downhill after Season 4. It made an interesting Sci Fi premise, but unbelievable in a world full of surviving children with no parental supervision.
Why is everyone complaining about the Hair and Makeup? It's meant to show their artistic freedom and the tribes they are in affiliation with, very similar to what tribes around the world have been doing. If anything, the makeup is very important to the series, acknowledging Tribes, the changes of character development, ceremonies, etc.
The best example I can give is Salene. (Spoilers below, read at you're own risk.)
Back in Seasons 2 and 3, Salene was a wimpy, weak minded girl who was literally made of clay (easy to shape and crush.) Examples of this include using Ryan as her rock when she had doubts in their relationship and joining the Chosen. At that time she wore little makeup and her hair was nearly at the length of her neck. When she came back in Season 4 her attitude completely changed, her hair was much shorter and she donned some new markings. It's even acknowledged in the series by lex when he comments on her new appearance with my favorite quote of his: "You're mean, lean Salene." After the death of Pride in Season 5, Salene goes back to her emotional ways and delves into alcoholism. If you notice her hair is longer and the painting around her eyes look more like tears.

Ok, maybe I am the only loser looking into this but I have a hard time putting something with no backstory.
I get it up, I get it up in the dark, I make her feel I'm not a holy man
