Why does Ryan have lots of British £50 notes in series 1? This is meant to be set in New Zealand right?

The show was filmed in New Zealand but was made for Channel FIVE in UK.

I guess that makes sense but even as a kid watching it I knew it wasn't set in England so the money thing just seems odd.

Basically the show was made by British people, but filmed in NZ. (with actors from both)
But the show in itself never states a setting, they just call it a city.
