I was able to find a copy here in the USA and just ordered it.
FYI to all others looking. The Full Title is:
Skyracer / Green Book / Big Picture - Making A Tv Drama Series ISBN: 0007168020 Author: BENNETT, MARY
It takes many months and hundreds of people to make a TV drama series. Join the cast and crew of Channel 5's "The Tribe" to find out what life is like on a film set and how the series makes the move from script to screen.
candysuxx, Thank you so much for your persistence in finding this book.
Just a follow-up. I did receive my copy of the book “The Big Picture, Making A TV Drama Series”. It is a very small book with only 32 pages. I love the book as it is chucked full of behind the scenes photos and pictures of many of the crew that made The Tribe.
To get back to toppic: The German books mostly tell about what happens during the show. The books aren't bad. They are worse. I bought them because I got hooked on The Tribe pretty late (summer 2003) when the KiKa in Germany showed a rerun on S01. They didn't show reruns of the other Series before airing S05 in spring '04 (or was it '05? can't remember) so I thought I could catch up by reading the books. Bad mistake. They are written badly, in parts totally wrong as if the writer hadn't watched the show on her own (or just hadn't cared, which I believe), some of the important parts are simply left out and some things are made up by the author. In parts these books don't make sense at all. I have read Mall Rats too (imported it from NZ), it's way better even though I sometimes had the feeling it was created before S01 was shot because of the differences in TT and the book. Power and Chaos was already sold out so I didn't manage to get a copy of that too (still trying).
I was very glad to hear that someone who read the German books had posted a reply.
I disagree with you slightly on “Mall Rats” being before season one. Only on the fact that the book is about Tai-San making a written history of the Mall Rats and there back stories. Yes, almost all the Mall Rats give a pre-season one back story. But the whole book it’s self is written in a season one back drop before the Mall Rats head off to Eagle Mountain and before the deaths of Amber and Zandra.
I’m like you. I too can’t get my hands on the book “Power and Chaos”.
Thank you again for your post it has answered my questions on the German books.
I found my copy from a Google search almost 2 years ago. Took me a couple of weeks till I found a copy.
It is very hard to find. I can give you as much information as I can. Your best bet is to do a daily Google search on the ISBN number and hope for the best.
Mall Rats by Catran, Ken Auckland, N.Z. : Random House, 2001. Description: 127 p. (pbk.) ISBN: 1869414713
wpcj-1, I wasn't actually saying that Mallrats' story played before Series 1, just that it was created before Series 1 was shot, like the author had read an early draft of the scripts for Series 1 and then written the book. Mostly because of Paul's story, Paul and TaiSan have like 1 episode together before Paul runs away in S1. And there's other things like this, characters slightly not matching, pre-tribe backgrounds not matching or surroundings not quite accurate (for example the tyres of the cars that have been taken to make shoes in the books, the cars in the show simply have no gas left).
Someone has posted this before. But I think that if they were not going to make anymore episodes of The Tribe one of the writers should have release a Tribe book every few months.
Not only could it have been profitable but could help young kids to become better readers.
I just can’t see how a world wide sensation like The Tribe could get switched off like a light. I know the core actors were getting older but it could have continued in other ways. Like animation, comics, and short novels. You can always keep the characters young that way.
I guess all the wishing in the world will not bring back The Tribe.
Why would anybody even keep the characters young? Since the Virus time has passed and everything was in constant change, so why should the characters stay young?
