A new series? To be filmed in the USA? (No Joke)

It's on the Tribe Revival site that it could happen, no real details yet other than there's been talk of it:

There was some talk of a new Tribe series being made in the States, and if that comes off, the film and novel are both back in with a chance.

I'd hardly get my hopes up based off this little piece. I'm not sure it'd be that good anyway. You can imagine it now. They'll reboot the series, new setting, new characters and new actors. And it'll be American....with their annoying mannerisms, etc.

I want to read that book though.

reply

A remake would be good, but I think they would have to stay true to the original.. I hope the book comes out.
Thanks for the update.

I'm with you, the fact that it might be filmed in the USA turns me off a little. I can see the Storyline being edited heavily so the Parents wouldn't complain about "Explicit content." Although I don't understand when you said "Annoying Mannerism." I've seen a lot of good American actors and they don't seem any different to ones outside the US.

I'm not against a remake of it though.

I get it up, I get it up in the dark, I make her feel I'm not a holy man

Does anyone have any more news on the remake?

I'm not gonna lie. I'm really offended. What "annoying mannerisms" do Americans have? At least our actors and actresses have the ability to, you know, act. I love the old series, but the actors and actresses weren't that great most of the time. A few were good, but most of the time I was cringing from how badly lines were delivered.

reply

I see Americans can act and the rest of the world is just slumming it? Someone better phone Laurence Olivier. Though Anthony Hopkins will probably just be relieved that he can stop pretending he knows what he's doing. I think not. The cast were young and if you want an annoying mannerism saying "you know" in the middle of sentences is a good start.

reply

I'm not saying that every country sucks in comparison to American actors. I'm saying that I don't see how you can point a finger at American actors when the actors on this show weren't the best.

Annoying mannerisms like "You know" wouldn't be written into the show so there was no point in bringing up our mannerisms when we're talking about a SHOW based on the acting.

I admit that everyone has things that could be considered annoying including people from every continent, but I don't understand peoples obsession with pointing a finger at us, and lumping us into one giant pile of crap. It is insulting, and I honestly don't understand why people do it because a lot of times they've never been to America and judged Americans based on their experiences with a mass amount of them and not just tourists.

reply

Well, y'know it'll be all like

"Hey Brad, wanna soda?"....it'd have the feel of all those generic American shows like Friends, Big Bang Theory, Sex and The City, etc...**shudders**

reply

...right...

And just because some shows are like that doesn't mean the good ones are. You're looking at shows that are comedy...comedy over exaggerates that stuff. Broaden your horizon on American TV.

And you never answered my question about all the hate of Americans. Have you ever been to America?

reply

I have and I now, with a few days between my last post and this one, am beginning to feel sorry for the Yanks. I suppose what I was, perhaps angrily, driving at was that part of this show's charm is its kiwi-ness. If it had been American it would be very different. Due to the proliferation of guns and the huge size of the States. Its cute that the locos use skates and baseball bats not UZIs and Chevys. And if it had been american they would all have been pretty. There's a rustic charm to those antipodean girls but Miley Cyrus they ain't.

reply

I understand that, and I agree that it would've been very different, and I also agree that I hate how everyone on American TV has to look like a sex icon. It gets old because even if the characters are relate able in the personality department you hate them because they aren't relate able in the looks area.

I have to wonder why America does this because it's already hard to grow up with your body going through weird changes, and if there were normal looking people on shows I wonder if it would help with body image issues.

Also when watching the show I would have to stop myself sometimes from judging characters based on their appearance because that is how the media in America trains you to feel. I hate feeling that way so I try and get past image and look at actions, but it's hard, and sad to think that it's so common here.

reply

lol yeah americans are weird.

reply

I won't deny that. Haha, but I still don't get the hate. Could you please answer my question about that because I want to know what we do so I don't do it.

reply

There's lots of you. You're richer and more powerful than us. Most films are of, by and about you. This makes us sad/ jealous. I just don't want yet another TV show absorbed by the US and claimed as your own.

reply

So it's about jealousy? I don't mean to dismiss your comment but that is a really sad reasoning method. Don't hate us simply because there ARE so many individuals and based on our country we have people that hate us. There have been times when I've been degraded for trying to go head first in another countries culture and been mocked. Some friends have had food chucked at them.

reply

I've read that the Torchwood series (Doctor Who spin off) is to be rebooted in America and again, i dont want it being taken and "claimed" by the americans.

Not that i have anything against Americans or American actors. (And yes i have been state side)

But the charm of both these shows is that they were written, produced and made in the countries the stories take place. Smaller countries with different cultures, people, landmarks and quirks.

And it is in some part jealousy...or just annoyance that America..being so big and all basically monopolises the movie business. A HUGE percentage of movies made and released each year come fromt he States.

Call us synical but we want our shows to stay with us...

A far more articulate way of saying what I was driving at. I don't hate Americans but If you don't understand why so many people hate you then you seem to not understand how the world works. Part of America's charm is that everyone hates you and you don't care.

reply

That post doesn't make any sense Beaunaventura.

I am surrounded by people that would drop everything they're doing to help someone in need. I am surrounded by people that are so nice to everyone they meet that sometimes I don't feel like I'm worthy of the friends and neighbors I have. If I am oblivious to how the world works because of a wrong image of Americans that you have then I'll gladly take the title of stupid because that's messed up. It seems to me that people who hate on other people just because of their nationality are the ones that don't understand how the world works.

I understand everything everyone has said about why they dislike American media, and believe me when I say that I like overseas shows and movies so much better then the crap we churn out. I am planning to go into acting as a career but unfortunately I'm not a size 0, and that's the only thing American media looks for in the world of film today. I admire other countries efforts in casting people based on talent, and not dependent entirely on who you're connected to, and if you are a potential sex object.

reply

I dont dislike Americans at all. I hope a new series gets made, I just hope they stay true to the original story and have the mallrats in it.

I love the USA although I am from Scotland. I go on holiday to the USA every summer, sorry if any Americans were offended.

And with regards to Torchwood, I think its cool it is going to be filmed in places other than Cardiff although it would have been good to see them make a trip to Scotland lol :)

I am also from Scotland and also go to the States every summer. Peoria, Illinois and San Francisco most often. The worlds most powerful country, the worlds richest country, the world's only superpower has to accept that with their position will come a general resentment. The Goth kids rarely like the captain of the football team. It's not cuase he's a bad guy but because he niether understands nor cares about the Goth kid. Not that he should have to.

Cool im from Glasgow, small world. How long have you been a Tribe fan?
The main places I like to go are LA, Las Vegas and New York. I am going back to New York and LA in October :) I have always fancied visiting San Francisco.

I'm from Edinburgh. San Francisco is awesome. I've been a fan ever since my paper round on a sunday morning and the tribe would be on Channel 5 when I got back in! Long time ago now.

Honestly, if this isn't a remake, i'll probably love it. I hadn't watched this show in years, but found the link to the tribeworld site in my favourites a few weeks ago, making me watch it again. The acting wasn't that great, but they were young, and some of them were really good.

I'm also sick of the American industry trying to take shows from other countries. I heard that they're making their own version of the BBC comedy series "Outnumbered". They have previously remade "The Office" and, as mentioned, making their own "Torchwood" too. However, it is not the American people that are the problem, going by comments on the remakes, many of them would rather watch the original versions of these shows. The greedy industry bigshots are the problem, and every country has those, it's money over quality with them, which is why,if this goes ahead and it is a remake and not some form of continuation, i don't think it will work.

I don't suffer with Army Wives addiction, I enjoy every second of it.

Is there any more news on the USA remake?

Posting as a Welshman Torchwood sucks and America can have it.

reply

i hope they do make a new american series of the tribe. i would watch it. obviously it wont be as good as the original series but if they do it well i think it will still be good to watch.

i just hope it has completely new characters instead of re-casting the original tribe characters (i would kinda hate that). and i hope the cast are like teen-age like the original series instead of little kids like on that 'new tommorow' spin off.

reply

Look if they do make a new series of the Tribe. IT WILL BE DIFFRENT!! The Question is will it be good or bad?

The point is if they keep to the thing that made the Tribe special. Speaking to Teenager's as thouth they are muture people rather then over grown kid's.
