I love the Lovecraftian feel of this movie. I always wanted to see the Unrated version. I own the regular version.

I agree somewhat with people's tastes with modern horror. Anything Michael Bay puts out is crap(particularly the TCM reimaging). Pointless gore does nothing for me. The atmosphere in Darkness was nice. Though some of it took place in a city, you still felt that sense of solitude. The characters are still in the city, but that doesn't make them any less alone, nor safe. That's a good type of feeling to incoporate into a horror movie.

From what I have read, the unrated cut restores a small amount of gore, and some dialog that clarifies the plot a bit.

According to CNDb and some other sites, Anna Paquin did film some brief topless shots for the tub scene, and while they were included in early test screenings, they were not restored in the unrated release.

Just watched the theatrical/rated version - don't do it. After checking up on the difference between that and the unrated - go for the unrated (every time) if possible.
