Reasons this movie made no sense.

Okay, I know this has been discussed, but I just needed to add a couple of things:

1. How old is Anna Paquin's character? I ask because she seems to be on the swim team or something, but the girl, like, never went to school, but she randomly had this friend named Carlos....even though the premise of the movie was that they had just moved into town. I don't know, I just never thought it made any sense.

2. Also, they're in Spain? Why the hell does everyone have a British accent? Why are they speaking English? The dad obviously spent his childhood in Spain....where is his accent?

3. The son came to the breakfast table like more and more beat up looking every day. What parent would ignore this?

I don't know, I mean, I'll admit, I own the movie, but I never thought it made much sense. A little background on the family would have been nice, and maybe it would have allowed the viewer to concentrate more on the storyline and less on the exposition of each character.

Also, the man who played the father was such a bad actor, it was laughable. I mean, when he blows up at the electrician? Seriously.

Completely agree.
What a mess.

The worst actor was that brother. His 'scared' expression was so pathetic.

Thank you for your esteemed opinion. I go on message boards to discuss movies, and get some answers about things I am unclear about. If you would like to explain my 'weak' argument, that would be fine. I like debate. I was simply stating things that I didn't understand with this movie, and I made it clear that i like the movie, I own it, and watch it from time to time. But you probably see yourself as an intelligent, elitist movie critic, so I will leave you alone as not to taint your life with my weak arguments.

For #3, I always thought the mother was slowly spazzing out. Out off all the characters, EVEN the dad, she seemed the most "out of it". Especially during the final scenes when she's suposed to quickly save her husband by freeing his airway. In that scene, though her daughter screamed for his mom to hurry, the mom hesitated and stared with a dazed expression. I always thought it was the house that interfered. Perhaps she was the weakest of all the family, and the house stated to affect her first.

1. They had been moved recently, but it's not the first time that they visit their uncle there. The friendship between Regina and Carlos can date back from chilhood.

2. The crew wanted a Scream-type movie so they filmed in English with foreign actors. By the way, from what I understand the father was actually born in the US although he spent part of his chilhood back in the grandfather's hometown. However, he has been living in the US for decades, so he has probably lose his Spanish accent (if he even had one).

The rest is just writer's fault.

1. Anna Paquin was 18 when the 'Darkness' was being filmed so I guess Regina was suppose to have been the same age.

Uh-oh. I saw this movie last night, and when the opening credits first started rolling, I said to myself, "Oh, crap. Is Mondo Diablo showing "Sin Nombre" yet again? Nope, nope. Different pic, but the visual style was the same. So this morning I learn the director is one and the same. Sorry, but both pics are, in my opinion, real short on story-telling skills. I can't enjoy either of them.

Yah. Agreed. This film blows. And what's with that final scene of them driving into the tunnel in a VW beetle? I mean, get it and all, but talk about a symbolic way to have your characters go out and your film end.

I assosiate the weird reactions of the father to his hungtington disease that destroy his nervious system, affects body movement, and peoples personality, is a terminal illnes, you can know more on the web,

first, would you really want to see this movie with subtitles?
OF CURSE they woudl talk english!
like in "The Grudge",most of the people there talked english, even the japansee ones.
it is AMERICAN movie,so it is in ENGLISH.

the reason the mother wasnt paying attention is that she did not want to understand there is something wrong.
she was sure as all the boy have just fallen or something, and only when his face turned all smashed off,she understood SOMEBODY is doing it to him.

about the age,i have no idea, but for my understanding she wants to get back to the state so she could finish school with her friends.
which probly means shes in her last year in school.

actually, i _would_ want to see the movie with subtitles, if it added to the believability.

then again, i hate dubbed movies, and am a sucker for subtitles, so ymmv.

SPOILERS just in case you didn't know

This movie is worth watching because it makes me laugh. When the dad hears talking larvae in the walls... hilarious. When the girl answers the phone and some little Spanish kids are randomly saying "Ola"... um HILARIOUS because where did those Spanish ghost voices come from? Makes no sense. And the ending was dumb. They just drive into the tunnel and I guess they all die. I forget most of the absurd funny stuff since it's been a while since I saw it. But I remember me and my friend laughed during most of the movie.
