Perhaps I didn't "get it", but this entire movie is basically about some depressed loser who lashes out at random, and well, that's it. There's really no story, and his character pretty much has no development, and that girl liking him and even seemingly stalking him just felt forced. I imagine this film is supposed to be some sort of character study, but man what a boring character Barry Egan is. IMO, this movie is nothing more than a failed attempt at trying to make an "art film".

It's not supposed to be a character study.
It IS a character study.

Just because you think issues like depression, repressed anger and bullying aren't interesting doesn't mean they aren't.

Go watch movies with cliched and unrealistic characters then.

I love this movie and respectfully disagree with the OP. But I can't say I don't find it refreshing to see someone actually expressing their opinion more intelligently than "this movie sucks and everyone who likes it in a moron."
