Hands down. Loved it

YES! Sandler's best! Easily and by far!

I think 50 FIRST DATES runs rings around Punch Drunk.. this one didn't involve me nearly as much as that one die, which had a very touching dramatic element, Barrymore's inability to create long-term memories - never saw that tackled in a comedy-romance before.. Chris Nolan handled it terrificly in MEMENTO, the film that went backwards to simulate the memory problem..

My only regret in life is that I'm not someone else - Woody Allen

Barrymore is likable but it doesn't make up for the credit humor and excuse for Sandler to get a paid vacation in Hawaii and cast all his usual pals even if they're not the best actors for the part.

In 25 years of making movies -- usually 2 or 3 per year, there are only four or five Adam Sandler films worth seeing: Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, Reign Over Me, the Wedding Singer, and Punch Drunk Love. Maybe throw Big Daddy and The Waterboy in there, but neither are truly as great on a dramatic or comedic level as those five.

reply

wow- you mention 7 average films but not his best: 50 FIRST DATES - which I also think is Drew Barrymore's best film.. really, Gilmore and Waterboy?? c'mon man!

My only regret in life is that I'm not someone else - Woody Allen

In my opinion 50 First Dates is less than average.

reply

The BEST indeed! This film never ages.

Happy Gilmore is undoubtedly his greatest film. Every person I know is familiar with the Happy Gilmore golf swing. Close 2nd is Billy Madison. Sorry, but those 2 are among the greatest comedies of all time. They're 90s classics. Anger Management was another great movie thanks to Jack Nicholson. PDL is a solid flick but to be honest I now understand why it was swept under the rug. Awkward /depressing/ at some points cringeworthy. But nevertheless I did like it.

Yeah, because they only started making movies in the 90s.

Sort of agree. I'd break it down like this:

Best Movies Adam Sandler has been in -

Punch Drunk Love
Reign On Me

Best Adam Sandler Movies -

Happy Gilmore
Billy Madison
Waterboy
Wedding Singer

reply

Nope. That's my Boy was way better than this junk.

I hope that's your attempt at trolling...

this is actually one of his worst. such a dull film. no comedy, no drama, no nothing. it gets the most overblown overrated hipster acclaim for god knows why.

I've come to hate the term "hipster." Just because you didn't like it doesn't make those that did hipsters.

THIS thread proves that Sandler fans are NOT film fans -- 50 First Dates didn't even get a mention but the dogs like Madison and Waterboy got some votes! yikes!! y'all need to watch some REAL classic comedies: Philadelphia Story, My Favorite Wife, When Harry Met Sally, Breaking Away, Dr. Strangelove, Much Ado About Nothing, The Producers (the original not the musical), just for starters..

My only regret in life is that I'm not someone else - Woody Allen

This is like the third time you've insisted that the lame 50 First Dates is some kind of overlooked classic.
