Question for any physicist out there....SPOILER...

If this has been asked and answered then I apologize in advance. What exactly did Alexander(Guy Pearce)do at the end that created the huge (strange) explosion or what ever that was? He said that he was "changing the future". Then he started his time machine and jammed his pocket watch in the mechanism causing this whole thing to eventually erupt into significant chaos. But what exactly did he do? Or was it supposed to be vague because it didn't make a lot of sense?

reply

I think he just blew up the Time Machine.

Because the Time Machine can go forward in time and backwards, I think when he blew it up, the light that usually surrounds the device and protects those inside went outwards and caused anything it touched to rapidly age and stuff.

I'm not a physicist, but that's what I got from it.

Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things: Jack and sh*t and Jack left town

Flux capacitors in the late 19th century were a lot less stable than the modern variety pioneered by Doc Brown and were mechanical in nature, just trapping your finger in the machinery could upset the whole space time continuum. Alexander really should have installed some sort of safety guard, especially if children were likely to be near it.

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

You had me at "Flux capacitors."

You come in here requesting insight from physicists about something that's fundamentally impossible?

Not sure what you're hoping to learn here.

Perfectly questioned.
