Are we to believe...

...that the amount of liquidating all of Muir's stocks, T-bills, etc. at that moment is exactly equal to the price of his dream home? Don't stocks still fluctuate on a daily basis? Seems like an awfully big coincidence. Or am I missing something....?

He faked the flyer.

Golf clap? Golf clap.

I think he'd seen the flyer already and needed the amount to be the same so he'd have a cover story.

What he probably did was had his broker put a stop order in to ensure that his portfolio couldn't drop too far below the sales price of the property he was going to buy ($282,000 I think). So, he may have had $281,000 or he may have had $283,000. But this would have represented almost all of that portfolio.

Whether Muir had any other savings/investments is unclear, but what is clear was that this was the exact money he was referring to when he told Bishop to "put some money away so you can die someplace warm & don't touch it for anybody, EVER."
