Firstly i want to say that i loved this movie! Its in my top 5 of all time.

One thing i would have loved to see more of was how Bishop stayed in contact with his ARVN spotter Tran after the war and how he came about helping Bishop try to rescue Elizabeth. During the fall of Saigon many ARVN where captured and killed or taken prisoner and never seen again. I wonder what happened to Tran. Did he get away? maybe make it to thailand and how did he end up linking up with Bishop again?. Who knows. I just wish we could have seen more on that part of the story.

Honestly I missed the fact the spotter and the guy helping him rescue the girl were the same person but I did wonder what happened to him. I just assumed they were executed, they probably did not even make it out of the prison alive. It would have made for a long movie but you are right, it would have been an interesting story point.
