Operation 'Dinner out' **ending spoilers**

When Brad Pitts character hears the chopper pilot say "operation dinner out" ... he reacts as if he knows its linked to RR character.

Was this alluded to in the flashbacks or something?

Yes there was a reference, it came up when they were sitting by the docks in Beirut.
Pitt gave Redford a nice hip-flask as a present.
Redford says 'I'm speechless, where did you find something like this in Beirut?' and Pitt replies: 'I didnt, it came in a diplomatic bag from London, we got a new racket going on, Operation Dinner Out.'
Redford turns it over admiringly saying 'Dinner Out?.....Dinner Out - I'll remember that'.

What makes that moment so great is that Pitt realizes his and Elizabeth's lives just got saved by the man least likely to stick his neck out for anyone. It was Redford who taught him to never go out on a limb for anyone, to not get emotionally involved, and who told him directly that if he ever went off the reservation, he wouldn't do anything to save him. That transition from Pitt's face to Redford's eyes as he puts on his sunglasses is one of the best moments I've ever seen in film.

I totally agree...When Pitt hears it was Operation Dinner Out, the look on his face and then the transition to Redford....Phenomenal!

Great ending only enhanced by the cut back to the Langley secured meeting room.

"You're not going to believe this but it seems something just happened in China."
