Biggest hole in the film
First of all, I love this film.
There have been a lot of threads and posts about holes in the film. I haven't seen this one mentioned anywhere.
Muir covered his covert actions with operation Dinner Out by saying that he'd been "using company resources for personal benefit." More specifically, he claims that he'd been, for the past year, re-routing one of the CIA satellites over some property in the Caribbean that he was interested in purchasing.
It's ludicrous to think that one person in the CIA could, by themselves, re-route a spy satellite for a year without anyone noticing. Everyone in the room would know that. None of his superiors would accept that outlandish claim for a moment.
I know that that comment isn't meant to be considered for more than a moment, and obviously suspension of disbelief is critical to this type of film. But the more I think about it, the more I think this is the hardest thing in the whole film to actually believe. It seems to suggest that in the CIA, million-dollar satellites are, like, library books or somesuch. And a few go missing from time to time, you know.
