Medical Explanation
Is there a medical explanation for how he was able to start throwing 98 mph's after probably hitting the mid 80's when he was a lot younger and healthier? Seems to me the dude was juicing.

shareYes, it's called a stronger shoulder for one. Jimmy was only throwing mid-80s and yet suffered several shoulder injuries. It's entirely possible he was born without the body to quite fit his sport. But as they mentioned in the movie, he even had ankle ligaments transplanted to repair his throwing shoulder. With rest, lots of continuous night throwing and much stronger parts, he could now be able to throw harder.
It's like an engine. In a weak bodied car a strong engine can provided so much torque it destroys its rear axle. Put the same engine in a stronger body and whoosh...a fast car.
Plus there is form. Perhaps the injuries changed his throwing style so much it lent more to his fastball. After all it's not like the fastest pitchers are only fast because of strong shoulders. Form is a big part of it too.
