Dad says "I can't figure out what these gloves were for" then he insists that Fenton use the gloves while digging the dungeon/basement (whatever you want to call it). What was the significance/symbolism of the gloves?

No, he would use the gloves while abducting the demons so that he'd be able to touch them without any reactions.

Then when back home he would remove the gloves and touch them with his bare hands to reveal their evil acts, confirming that they are in fact demons before destroying them.
