Show died in season 9. Previous stuff is funny.
Just my $0,02 and Larry's $400,000,000
shareI don't really know what you're talking about. I just got through with Seasons 9 & 10 and laughed just as hard as I did in previous seasons. I have to give kudos to the cast and crew for maintaining a consistent level of quality for 20 years.
shareWhen your whole post is the title, and your context is a failed attempt at humor by using the most tired cliché in existence, you are not standing on anything solid.
This show was never that funny to begin with, and it has fluctuated A LOT during its whole existence. There are seasons, episodes, and even individual moments that are good, and also ones that are bad, really, really bad, and anything inbetween.
There are a few 'superb gem moments', but they are relatively rare. Some things made me laugh uncontrollably, then there were whole episodes where my facial expression probably didn't change much.
Season nine and ten are no exceptions; they have fun and funny moments, absurd situations, great cameos, beautiful scenery, but also horrible moments, cartoony stupidity, eyerolling failures and crude fecal jokes that should've been left out of the scripts. I mean, such as they are, as this show is not that scripted anyway.
This show does dare poke at things most shows would never attempt, so that deserves and has earned great respect for Larry and the show. The social taboos are pretty much all there from sex offenders to big vag-jays to islamists to feminist lies you are not allowed to question normally.
I think the thing I most hate about this show is how goodness is always sacrificed at the altar of 'funny'. If something is funny, there's a fight and evil things happening. Goodness is never allowed to have many pockets in the show, which is a pity, as this show DOES do it so well when it's allowed. When Larry decides to help someone, it's sometimes very empathetic to watch, when Jeff and Larry support each other, like good friends good, it can be heartwarming - I would love to have a friend like Jeff, and I would endlessly do favors for him, because he's a good guy (although he does LIE and cheat and all that, but at some points, he does show to be at least a good friend, and you can talk about anything with him, knowing you won't be judged).
The redeeming point is, that on the other side of that coin, everything ELSE is also sacrificed on the same altar; there's nothing politically correct here! Larry makes fun of anything and everything, and if that's not true EQUALITY, I don't know what is.
I especially love how he treats the japanese people with respect, while still making them seem funny and fun, and even sometimes unreasonable (but hey, who ISN'T unreasonable in this show?).
The japanese language is mostly accurate and well done, even if the cultural quirks shown in this show might not actually exist.
incorrect.
show is still funny as hell.
