So is this basically "Seinfeld" with Larry David as the main character?

You could say that it is Seinfeld, with George Costanza as the main character.

However, although as obnoxious as ever, 'George' is now also brilliant, rich, and famous, with a lovely, intelligent wife.

It is made clear in CYE that George's character had been based on Larry David.

yes

No. Seinfeld was 75% Seinfelds sense of humor and 25% Larrys sense of humor. Curb is about 100% Larrys humor, since Jerry isn't involved.

reply

Your percentages are off.

reply

No. The only similarities are the catch phrases ("Stop-and Chat",etc.)
Seinfeld had a script. Seinfeld was rated PG. Seinfeld was not edgy.

reply

I would say The Contest was edgy, among many other episodes and concepts.

reply

Agreed. Seinfeld was edgy when it was originally on TV.

Seinfeld was edgy, just not all the time. Sometimes it was 'super edgy', to the point of 'shocking' (at the time), sometimes it was 'relatively edgy', sometimes 'debatable edgy', sometimes 'not very edgy at all'.

Seinfeld run for nine seasons, that's almost a DECADE, a lot was done in that show, edgy and non-edgy. Seinfeld didn't tiptoe around anything, even though it had a laugh track and it didn't feature cursing. It was as edgy as you could get aired at a time, especially as a PG-show.

What makes you say or think it wasn't edgy? Just because Kramer doesn't swear 90% of his dialogue, or some hag isn't constantly screaming the F-bomb doesn't mean the show wasn't edgy.

reply

pretty much. It's not only if Seinfeld starred George(who was based on Larry), but also if Seinfeld was told from George's perspective.

George: I told her the truth.
Jerry: As you see it?

George: Maybe because the whole universe is against me!

reply

i dont see it that way.

but how many times Larry said that he is co creator of Seinfeld :D about 1000?

I saw this film for free... and still wanted my money back.

It's more like Seinfeld with all the not-funny parts cut out.

Tell the facts. Name the names.

reply

To be fair, if there were no "Seinfeld," this show probably wouldn't exist at all. And Larry David would be a bum on the library steps.
