Year Set

What year is this set in/supposed to be set in? I'm confused by the flight attendant uniform style, it looks like something from the 60s but is the movie supposed to be set in the present?

i was curious of this as well, lots of little tings point to the 60s, but its definetly the present

reply

yeah. that was iffy, they looked 60's, listened to 80s music, and Weston referenced Dr. Phil.

Indeed, the music was 80's, but in Paris she had a 5 Euro note on her table, what didn't exist before 01/01/2001. So its looks a little bit like a time travel.

reply

The Euro wasn't released to the public until 01/01/2002 actually. ;-)

yes I was really confused about this too. The furnishings in Donna's apartment looked like the 70's, there was 80's music played throughout the whole thing, the flight attendant's uniforms were 60's - 70's, but there were also some references to present-day. hmm oh well!

Hi, when Christie is filling in the application form it shows her year of birth as 1979.

The movie is set in the present, the uniform style is 60s because the motto OF Royalty is something like "bringing back the glamour to aviation".

I was wondering when this movie was supposed to be set as well because there are many mixed signals -style of uniform for flight attendants, music (some of which is from the 70's and possibly the late 60's) not to mention Sherry talked about working for Pan Am which I believe went out of business in the late 80's or early 90's. I agree with Marlene07: the nostalgic things give the movie a fairy-like feel that in my opinion added to the overall charm.
