The term 'Stewardess'

I couldn't really figure where else to pose this question, and since it may be likely that "flight attendants" who saw the film may visit this board, I decided to pose the question here -

When and Why did the term "stewardess" become a sexist term? I was under the impression that it was commonly used in the early days of commercial flight travel, I've even heard it used in some old movies involving air travel.

Thanks

Its not a sexist term, it never has been a sexist term, putting cabin crews in lycra dresses is an eye candy attraction.

I'm a flight attendant, air hostess, trolley dolly, but am not a trolley tart (Virgin Airways).

If you want to learn more about cabin crews probably the best place to interact with us is at this place:

http://www.aircabincrew.com/ sometimes the server goes down :(

Most of us have employee and union local (private) message forums, but the girls and guys here are a friendly and helpful bunch.

Good luck on your search, I have been a dolly for almost 13 years, all my dreams have come true (and I have never had to wear a lycra uniform)!
