Im not surprised this got rated so low. This was probably the worst hood movie Ive ever seen. Its supposed to be set in the 80s? really!? their haircuts, the way they talked, everything seemed too modern. The production value is so damn cheap, it has nothing of the excellence that New Jack City commands.

You're right, unfortunately Paid in Full represents a lost opportunity and you're left with the thought of what a classic it could've been in the hands of a good production company and directors like The Hughes Bros, Spike Lee, Martin Scorcese, De Palma, Sam Mendes or even Michael Mann.
The blame for the creative and production failures of this film rest on the shoulders of Damon Dash and to an extent, Charles Stone, who as the director should've demanded that Dash give him the resources to do the project properly. It wouldn't have cost much to create a convincing 80s atmosphere but they didn't make any true effort and it shows what a low regard Dash had for the subject matter and the audience. As a result, the film suffers for this on several levels.
Azie Faison, the real life Ace was pissed at how the project turned out and has said it's a travesty of the true events and says Paid in Full has no resemblance to the anti-drugs message and social commentary featured in the original script.
In fairness, most of the cast do a good job and act superbly with what is a dreadful script. There are moments where Paid in Full is visually impressive but they're too few and far between. Just five mins listening to the real Ace speak really illustrates what potential was wasted in this flick.

Theres nothing wrong with this movie. NJC is wack, probably the worst hood flick in terms of realness. Who cares if it doesnt look like the 80s, what has everyone got to have stupid haircuts to mak[e it seem 80s? Give the film some poetic licence. PIF, Juice and MiiS are the best hood movies.

Ohh well, it's 20th Century for ya!!! They never made anymore good HOOD movies at all since 1995 after CLOCKERS. And thesedays and in the future will NEVER EVER be anymore HOOD movies coming up anymore, especially since Mostly Black guys thesedays are wearing Tight Skinny Jeans looking like Rock Stars. Paid In Full is totally garbage, only watch it few times, that's why BET is a cheap sorry a-- channel because they keep playing this crap alot. New Jack City, Juice, Ohh and don't forget STRAPPED are 100000000000% BETTER than this cheap a-- quality film. Ohh well, like I said, that's 2002, Not the 80s/90s when HOOD movies were real back then.
