Toula deserved a better proposal

Sorry if this has been brought up already, but this is the one thing in the whole movie that bothered me.
So Toula has finally found the love of her life, and she's being proposed to. . .in bed. . .after sex.
Don't get me wrong, I guess it supposed to be sweet, but it came off as kind of sad and anti-climatic. The whole movie had been building up to the moment Toula got engaged and THAT'S how they decided to go about it?
She deserved a better proposal than that. That was just tacky. She should have gotten a sweet and creative proposal that she could tell her family and future kids about. If I were her, I'd be embarrassed if someone asked me how he proposed because future brides get asked that question all of the time. I know it's a movie, but still.
A very lame proposal!

OMG!!! WILL YOU PEOPLE STOP WITH THE PRODUCTION NUMBER PROPOSALS! It was sweet, and intimate, and perfect for the characters.

I don't get why every proposal has to be some big to do.

I loved my husbands proposal, it was simple, to the point and in his truck while we were waiting for his friend to get ready for school. I hate when people make a fuss, so it was perfect to me.

What's tacky is making such a big deal about the proposal and showing it off to other people. Unless you are still in middle school, caring THAT much about the proposal is just lame. Same goes for the wedding. The important part is the MARRIAGE.

My fiance proposed to me on Christmas morning (the ring was a gift), and it was sweet and simple. I loved the proposal in the movie. Plus, maybe Ian just wasn't sure how/when he was going to do it, and it seemed like the right moment.

Did I say it should've been a grand production or something flashy? No...
Look, my husband proposed to me and it was just the two of us, no one else around. It was amazing. I'm not bothered about it being a quiet proposal with no one around. I'm bothered that it happened in bed after sex. It's just so...ehh.
Couldn't he at least gotten down on one knee with his pants on?
"Mommy, how did daddy propose?"
"Well, we had just finished a little hanky-panky, then all of a sudden..."

So what if it did happen after sex? It didn't bother Toula so it shouldn't bother you. A proposal after sex between two people who are obviously and deeply in love. What's wrong with that? If they were one of those rare couples that never have sex with each other than I would agree with you.

You seem to be under the impression that the proposal happened abruptly after sex and there was nothing about them to suggest that. It looks like the sex (if there was any that night) happened a awhile ago.

In either of these scenarios the point is that Toula was obviously very touched (and crying) and I found it to be a very sweet scene. If he had done the cliche of getting down on one knee, which isn't that romantic btw it's become to common, it might have felt forced and unnatural in an otherwise intimate and personal environment.

It's very easy to explain moments like this to your kids without giving all the details until they're older lol :)

My husband proposed to me in WRITING and left the note under my car's windshield wiper! We joke that if it had rained that night, we might never have married.

AWWWWW! That has to be one of the cutest proposals I've ever heard. Congrats to you both.

Thanks, adelg3: Forty-two years later, I still have the note.

As well you should:) Enjoy the next 42 years ;)

This is the best thing I have read today. So sweet.

Toula wasn't that kind of girl that wanted that kind of attention brought to her. Were you not watching the movie?

besides, she based this story on her own relationship!

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

I thought that the proposal was so sweet. Nicely done!
