He wasn't my favorite character in the movie but I did like him and was happy he didn't get killed off. I felt sorry for him because of his mother and because everyone else was so mean to him.

He was so funny, but his mom was sure annoying. Did any of yall find it funny when Emery was pickin on Annie when he told her to take ten or twelve deep breaths and squat down and blow on her thumbs, that she'll get all floaty and go to the north pole with Santa with his eight tiny reindeer, I like that part, it was very funny.. When Annie was helpin the house destroy them.

I did feel sorry for him and can understand why he acted the way he did. Although I do think he did get a bit too annoying at times and over the top. I do think the actor did a very good job. Emery was pretty smart with what was going on it was just that he was anti social in dealing with the group. I think Judge Joe Brown would say it best "You need your man training". Emery was an overgrown boy that needed positive male role models and get away from his mother.

I knew a guy who had a mom like Mrs. Waterman. It was like the poor guy was always drowning, and his mother was hanging onto his neck weighing him down.

After mom kicked off, he damn near turned into John Wayne.

He is in my top 3 in the movie I never really stopped and actually think who my favorite character is until now, I liked Nick the best. But my 3 are Nick, Steve and Emery. Steve because I found him cute, (he is also in Scream 3) I liked Emery, I think his character is supposed to be annoying but it is funny and I don't know if it is also the same way in the book but once you see him do the "Not there, not there" at the beginning then you know he is one of the important characters. And I also found him annoying at times, especially when he didn't help Victor (although I doubt he could because of the door), but he is funny and they did redeem him in the end. And did get the best lines especially making fun of Annie after his fingers got cut off and the "Wickedy, wickedy.." and giving Cathy the glare hahaha..

If you think about it almost all of them have their annoying moments and redeeming moments, from Annie, Sister, Cathy.. This is probably what Stephen King wanted. Except for Nick and Steve who were straight up nice guys. Professor Miller, Bollinger and Mrs. Waterman who were straight forward annoying. Too bad Nick got eaten by the house contrary to the history where all men died and women were the ones who went missing. I liked Joyce but she just got too crazy.

Rose Red is one of my favorite Stephen King next to Shawshank Redemption.

Upon first viewing, I didn't like him much. But I've watched it many times since, and he's not just a nasty character there to tick people off. He often speaks the truth that no one wants to hear. Ex. his idea about knocking Annie out wasn't a bad idea per se, if it could be done safely, he just took it too far because he was in pain due to his hand.

Another example would be when he points out that Sister isn't as accepting of the situation with Annie as she says, though obviously she loves her.

He also is a pretty smart guy, but I got the impression that because he's unpleasant, the others didn't always want to listen, and I liked it when Nick backed him up. He also showed genuine concern for the demise of those around him even though he wasn't buddy-buddy with them.

Now, he has social issues and tends to provoke on occasion just to be a pain, but then again with the kind of relationship he has with his mother, he's bound to be bad with people in some way.

It's kind of like the Annie's father. He comes across as a stern and mean person, but his talk to Sister after Annie makes her opinion known sheds more light on why he is the way he is and that he does care. Turns out he was right, too. Taking Annie into that house was a bad idea.

He's a bit of a **** but is maybe the most interesting character - actually a lot of real psychics are that obnoxious when they are not "performing"

Most of the other characters are a bit dull IMO which is unusual for a King mini-series - usually they are more well rounded and interesting and even have great back stories - maybe the difference is that this was not a book before the screenplay and it was maybe rushed

Half Irish, Half German - hated by all. But at least I'm not Welsh

I understand him. His ability combined with his mother's mental illness explains a lot.
