Steve/Annie's relationship

Hi. I just watched the movie last night so I may be a little off-in-left-field about this.

YET, did there seem to be something deeper...as in strangely sexual...about Steve and Annie's connection? I thought (even though Annie is autistic) that something else was going on during the whole movie.

It may be just me seeing things that aren't there.

I'd say you were misinterpreting their interaction. Annie is an impressionable little girl and Steve is the young handsome man with a friendly smile, it's natural that Annie would find him more appealing than say, Emery. Steve was merely intrigued with her gift/ability.

I think he looked at her more as a little sister than anything else, while it is hard to say how she really felt about him, I guess she may have had a little crush on him, but as for anything more than that... not likely.

I always thought that Steve and Rachel hooked up after the events of Rose Red; little details here and there seemed to point to a growing attraction between them. Following this theory of mine, Steve would be around Annie a lot more which would allow for the development of their friendship.

I would also agree with many of the theories already put forth. I think Steve regarded Annie as a little sister figure and treated her as such. I think Annie may have had a teenage girl's crush on Steve and her ability to hear him in her mind helped to solidify her admiration of him.

you weren't the only one I sensed chemistry between them as well. I thought the ending implied either a developing friendship or relationship although it would be a tad awkward because of her age though not because she was autistic. He could of fallen for her despite that.

reply

I have to disagree. It was evident to me during the ending that Steve had developed a romantic relationship with Rachel (Sister) by the way that he stood in front of her with the roses and had strengthened the big brother/little sister relationship with Annie.

Annie might have liked Steve simply because he was nice to her. Don't forget, Emery was saying how they could kill her. Granted, I'm not sagacious about male-female interactions, but death-threats seem to me that they would be just a bit of a turn-off.

Every female was smitten or at least into Steve because he was handsome and charming and sweet. Annie might of had a bit of a crush on him but nothing sexual. Also since Steve could talk to her in her mind she found a connection she didn't have with the others. Steve found her fascinating and was sweet and nice to her. Also with her being the key to what was happening he would of course show more favor to her but in a non sexual way. I could see Steve going after Annie's older sister though.

Beyond Annie having a crush on him, I don't think there was anything more to their connection/relationship. I could definately see things between them getting hot and heavy later on, though, a few years down the line once she gets older.

I dont even think it was a crush, I think they had a bond because they could communicate telepathically. I think their relationship went much deeper than love of any kind, romantic or familial.

reply

Yeah, agreed, I don't think there was any crush from either party, just a deep bond on an emotional and spiritual level.
