Lord De Guise seduces Nicholas? (warning: SPOILERS)

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE BELOW.

It's obvious enough that De Guise likes the look of Nicholas on some level or other, but near the end of the film, when he leans in to tell Nicholas why he did what he did ("because I wanted to; and because I... could"), I thought for a moment that Nicholas, who closes his eyes and falls into his embrace, was succumbing to some weird allure that he thinks De Guise has. Afterward, it was made clear that he was actually killing Nicholas at this point, but during the scene itself, it wasn't clear at all. D'you think it was *supposed* to look like some sort of seduction, or was it inadvertent...?

reply

If it looks like seduction, I'd say it is inadvertent.

But then, one of the great joys of movies is that we all get different things out of them.

I think that moment was intended to make it look like De Guise was making himself look more overpowering in a nasty way. Especially seeing as how he's obsessed with abusing his power, he "embraced" Nicholas to make him look more subservient and sort of rub it in his face.

That scene was edited very poorly. It did not flow well at all, in my opinion.

To each their own...opinion

I don't know that this will answer the OP's point but when de Guise said he acted because he wanted to I thought he at that point was the devil, figuratively and Nicholas perhaps a 'saint'.

I enjoyed Cassell as de Guise very much and the relish with which he taunted Nicholas over his lack of conscience or guilt for what he had done.

The universe has no centre and no edges. Reality is arbitrary.

I ddin't see seduction at all. I thought it was just DeGuise taunting Nicholas with his power ("Because I could..."). And Nicholas being pained that DeGuise is right and that no one could touch him.

If you can't walk and talk/text at the same time, do the rest of us a favor and get out of the way.
