At the end the aunt isn't there at the house but her dog is. I was wondering if Jude Law killed her because Michael Jr showed up at the farm with her dog. I don't think he stole it. Maybe she gave it to him? Also, he would most likely just live with his aunt if she was alive and not the old couple. Did I miss something?

Yeah, she must have done. As you said, all the proof is there. The kid would've stayed with his aunt otherwise and he wouldn't have taken the dog. Jude Law's character would'nt have left her alive if he'd seen her. It was almost like a trap for Mike Sr. The only other place to go is to the old couple. It's all there in hindsight: the couple said they couldn't have children, the woman said Mike Jr was a hard worker and a farm is far away from the violent life that Mike Jr didn't want. I find it a perfect ending.
