When the officer gets killed by the restaurant

The officer sees one guy shooting to a car and he just says: " What the hell you think you're doing?". I mean... lol. I think this part is terrible.

Meh, It was the depression who knew the quality of cops they had. It was also a rural beat he may have never seen anything like that and just panicked...

Maguire also probably shot him in the heat of the moment, from the adrenaline of just shooting at the Sullivans' fleeing car.

Very silly scene. It feels unrealistic how the cop reacts as well as Law shooting to begin with. He knows a cop is around, it doesn't make sense for him to bring that kind of heat on himself by killing a cop in front of those witnesses in the diner. Perhaps he came back to kill the witnesses?
