"Underrated"?

I think this movie is a gem in the Farrelly Bros' canon. It's not exactly high art, but it's a funny movie with a great pace that doesn't revert to easy gross out humor, at least not to the extent of their other movies. And Jack Black gives a pretty good performance which for once isn't completely just 'Jack Black'. A lot of people seem to be divided on the plausibility of the theme but I find that irrelevant.

no, the farellys are best in pure comedy, they have no single serious bone in their bodies. this movie is too serious for them, so it wasn't convincing, others could have done it much better.

I was very surprised by how much I liked this film. Not that I went into it thinking I'd be offended; I just wasn't expecting a good movie. Interestingly, I think it's only OK as a comedy. It shines more as a drama - not with big emotional scenes but rather small tender moments.

"Hal, if I don't hear from you, I really appreciate everything anyway."

"What's wrong, Hal? Things haven't felt the same lately."

Hal's running into Rosemary without even realizing it's her, and the incredulous, devastated look on her face.

These are the things I love about SH rather than, say, the montage scene in which Hal and Rosemary begin dating.

WAY underrated. And I don't use that term very often.
Right - plausibility is, of course, pretty much non-existent. That's not at all what this movie was about.
